Wireless gear for ground RC
I know the BlackWidow stuff is great for airplanes, but I think it maybe over kill or just the wrong choice for cars.
I only need 200-300 yards of range, and vibration is inevitable. I have a SportWerks stadium racer and I just use it to patrol my yard and to entertain myself. No racing or Bashing.
I have several 2.4g camera but they and their default receivers are really good for like 30 feet. I am not looking for anything that should violate FCC, I just want decent clean footage from around my house.
Can anyone recommend a setup cheaper than the BW stuff, but still decent quality? I drive the car from inside the house, so it is 80% drive-by-video. The house security cameras give me some additional coverage, but always get stuck where they can't see me... =(
Thank you!
Vaughn

RE: Wireless gear for ground RC
Thanks for all the responses... It looks like all ground video threads just get ignored. What a shame.
I am about to order the BWAV stuff, but would be nice if anyone who has used it at ground level would chime in with their experiences with it. I know I don't have a lot of posts here yet, but I am not just dropping in for a quick answer. I read this forum everyday now, but the only reason I am here is Ground RC Video and FPV mods, and wish there were more people like me here.
Links or anything to any ground RC video infor would be great. I am working on tying this all in with my Open Source home automation project (www.vCrib.com) and I have lots of questions, etc.
Would people be more receptive if I posted pics of what I have set up now?

RE: Wireless gear for ground RC
Here are the cameras I am using now, if it helps:
This is a super cheapo, but I wanted night vision on the RC Car, so I bought it. Horrible range, like 30-50 feet even though it claims 200mw output.
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=NIGHT-WIRELESS
I also have one of these cameras, but it has a pinhole lens and no night vision:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...C-Sm4rterDe4ls
(I did not buy it from here and I have the receiver it came with)
Here is my current antennea on the receiver, although I want a Omni Directional on for my front & back yard.
http://www.swann.com.au/show_item.php?item=143
I am willing to spend $300, but would prefer $150-$200. I am even fine with my cameras if just I had a better antenna or something. I keep trying 802.11 network antenna's, but they are all worse and unusable.
Please help,
Vaughn

I have been thinking about mounting a camera to my car also. Have you seen this site? http://www.wirelessvideocameras.com/

RE: Wireless gear for ground RC
I just caught the thread. I don't usually hit them all. Title is important.
I use 900 Mhz for ground use but 2.4 is pretty popular. I can't help you with cheap. That's a grab bag and you never know what you'll get. I use my 900 Mhz systems from Super Circuits. I think 900 Mhz performs better in a ground based application. You don't have all the multi pathing issues and "ghost" images from bouncing microwave frequencies. (BTW, A microwave oven in use near by will knock out your 2.4 Ghz signals till the Oven stops)
Good luck and don't forget, cheap is cheap.

RE: Wireless gear for ground RC
Is that a gps unit on your truck?
I recently found a wasp hive at the other end of the attic from the access stairs. I wasn't too fond of the idea of spraying the hive and trying to crawl the length of the house to get away. I figured I "had" to mod my clodzillla into a hive killing ROV. I have cameras and a "part 15" compliant (read "weak" ) tx/rx. I've rigged a wasp spray aerosol can to spray via RC servo. Now I want to rig a big needle to inject the spray into the hive. I have most all of the parts needed... however I just had three nasty warts burned off of my hands and they are in no shape to work on this project.[&o]
more than you wanted to know...
edit:
this is the [link=http://www.supercircuits.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3997]TX/RX[/link] I have.
Funny, I don't remember it costing that much when I bought it 7(?) years ago... I only need to transmit 30 feet thru the ceiling tho.

OK, I know it's not aerial, but...
Here's my attack on the wasp nest in the attic:

[link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo09NwdllM0]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo09NwdllM0[/link]
It's sped up to 3 times normal speed in spots, but the actual hive attack is real time.
