Default 808 keychain cam, how do u use this thing

I figured before i remove the lipo and toss this POS in the trash i'll see if anyone can tell me how to use this thing. It appears to have a micro sd slot do i need a card or is there onboard mem? I hold the on/off button and the led goes on then starts flashing if i then hold down the other button it just shuts off. i messed with it for about an hour and figured somthing i did had to have recorded or taken a pic but nothing. do i need some special download for this to work? alls i know is i'm getting frustrated and for $20 my time is more valuable....

Help

The Key Chain cam needs a micro SD card to function or it will shut off. The one I have is so simple to use once you understand it that it is almost self running. First insert a micro SD card then you hold down on the button for a second then when the light flashes it is ready. press once and it takes a still photo, press and hold till the lights blink then you are in the video mode. The minuscule print in the manual is somewhat fair chinglish and if needed email the seller for a pdf of the manual that will help a lot. just keep messing with it and after a few tries it should be working how you want it too. Also the softwae needs a lot of attention if you want to have the date stamp correct!

Thanks i did some online research and found exactly that. I assumed it had onboard memory. I'll pick up a micro sd card today.

Thanks,

I had to do some looking at the instructions before I found the unit needed a micro sd card. Luck would have it I had one that was in a old mp3 player that was due to be used in a force field experiment between two big rocks! One piece of advice is to mount the cam as tightly as possible to the plane hat will get rid of most of the vibration and then tape over the microphone hole and that will cut down on some wind noise, I painted the bottom half with florescent orange in case it fell off there was a chance of finding it if you saw where it went to in a general area (don't ask how I know) hope to see some videos soon.

Most software will allow you to flip the image. Just remember that the video will be long and someparts really boring so you can edit the video down some and add music to it. watch some of the flight videos on you tube and see what style looks good to you!

Hi guys,
I also have one on the way. Someone in one of the other forums suggests a micro card with a rating of "class 4" or "class 6" to improve the speed of the camera. I picked up a 4ghz class 6 card, but I don't have the camera yet. Some of the cameras come with a class 2, and I have read this is a problem when using it on a plane. Anyone have any input in this regard??

I got my keychain cam yesterday and can't get it to turn off unless the battery runs out. Did anyone else experience this?

Bob,
You didn't explain how you are trying to turn it off? The 808 keychain camera turns off by pressing (and holding) the second button from the front of the camera until the light goes out.

Yup, that is what I did. I recharged it and turned it on again, same thing. I did finally manage to turn it off by putting a paper clip into the Reset hole. But it won't turn off regardless of how long I hold the On-Off switch, whether its a short jab or a long one...

they do that to me too i just put some velcro on mine and it works great underneath my Supercub.

once you reset it, the date goes back to 2008 again . But they are a lot of fun!!

Here's a HOWTO page :

I just ordered this camera. What micro sd to use? I have a carl goldberg cub that I will like to have the camera on. Where is the best place to mount? I was thinking on mounting it to the right strut. This will be fun it is mt first attempt at aerial videos. Thanks

Any micro SD will do. I bought a 2GB one from Sandisk at Staples. Mine came with a carrier so that it could be removed from the camera and plugged into the SD slot on my PC. But, you can always leave it in the camera and download it with the USB cable too.

Just don't buy a junk brand. You need something that will be fast enough to record the video for you without being choppy.

Y'all might consider making a rotating deck for your little cameras. This can be accomplised by gluing a servo horn "wheel" offset (so you can access the servo screw). Next, modify a servo togain continuous rotationusing one of several techniques - this thread is straight-forward - http://www.instructables.com/id/How-...nuous-rotatio/
Depending upon radio used, you could assign a switch - that upon activation - forces that servo to travel - say - 140%, Switch it back, and the camerarotates again.
Let us knowof your success!

After reading this thread, I did a search for keychain camera in Amazon.com. I found at least two similar cameras. One sells for US$49.00 and the other for US$99.00.

In both cases, they are advertised to have 4GB built-in memory and capable of doing 640x480 AVI video.

Is any of these the same as the one that you guys have been having good success with?

There are several versions of the keychain camera as per the link reported earlier in this thread. You want 720 x 480 or better, but it is like buying a pig in a poke - You can not be sure what you are going to get until you get it. I lucked out and got version 6 cameras, that are 720 x 480. Their images are superior to the 640 x 480 displays of my FCO2 and old gumstick camera, which are both 640 x 480. It would be nice to ditch the stupid date stamp, but I have read that it is there forever and always, dang it. A velcro button and rubber bands make a good, firm camera mount. Tape also works, but I had the tape come loose. Likewise, it is useful to put a safety line on it in case it comes loose. I lost a FCO2 in a crash and did not find the camera until a year later. The camera was toast, but the memory chip recorded the crash and the sounds of me searching for the lost camera in a bamboo thicket.

The camera is worth the 14$ I paid for. The mic already came loose the video is poor at best.

Got a 808 today but was really cheep. It works fine but files are very big. The video is great! A 4 min fly uses about 377mb of memory on the card. This must be tooo big to upload so what has to be done? Is this camera a waste or is there something to cut up the video and get it down to a viewable upload? Seems very cool! Thanks Ron
