thanks shoe , rmh, obviously this thought experiment is designed to eliminate 'air under the wing' - so what i'm getting at is does this show that lift is possible even when air can't be flowing down below the airfoil? i.e. no down wash...........
forget the wash - lift is simply and solely due to pressure differences
IF there is no pressure difference there is no lift
if the moving panel has all th air evacuated on underside (OR a lower pressue than on upper surface ) net effect is no lift
Downwash is simply a waste product
measuring it is like trying to assess the strength of a horse by measuring the amount of manure produced .
Oh geeze - here we go again. In the face of all logic. And all evidence to the contrary. oh well ... the net is an interesting place.
Logic?
Boy, I missed that.

Tim still thinks that the downwash somehow pushes the wing up...Even when, by definition, it's behind the wing, and can have no effect on it. Logic? These are very shaky grounds we tread upon...

I suspect the "horsey" thing was a bit too much for some
However - I am certain the relationship I noted - is accurate.

Well - someone got something right for once.

And, there might be scent of trolls in the air. No?

After 16 pages of postings I believe this thread has run it's course and that we are all just repeating what has been already said and standing more firm on our varous positions. To avoid any more needless confrontations the thread has been locked.
