I did not read all the posts. From my personal experience is the following....

Years ago I purchased a jet pump for a RC boat. Installed it and the boat would hardly move. The water coming out of the pump made a large cone shaped spray that was rotating. I installed a "flow straightener" and I now had a strait stream of water that would push the boat. I think you will find the same flow straighteners in just about every ducted fan out there.

Does this have anything to do with this discussion????? Maybe I just muddied the water???
