I guess one of those specs on the screen is your plane?

Yes Scott, the fastest spec was mine LOL. In all seriousness, in early November we will be having a race that will include a top speed run. These airplanes are propped to fly the course and dont get up to full speed on the course straights. With different props and some tuning we expect multiple 200+ mph passes.

Will you just go away already!? Your one picture in a magazine 20 years ago doesn't mean jack, nor does it make you the "god" of anything you may have knowledge about. I've got accomplishments and awards in this hobby as well, i just don't have to pump up my ego and flaunt them.

When you decide to post something useful, i'll apologize for my actions earlier.. until then, please just go away and quit tarnishing the thread that is actually producing useful information from knowledgeable people.

BTW.. not all pool guys are "dumb" per your comment. I know one with a PHD in astrophysics who got tired of the 9-5 grind and decided to open his own business. He does very well for himself.

So just who do you think is going to be qualified to inspect a scratch built model with most structure out of veiw? Honestly, you seem to think you are smarter then everyone else but the fact is every time you post you make yourself look less and less knowledgeable. A smart person would realize when he wasn't wanted in a conversation and leave.

Sure, feel free to come inspect it during the build thread, i dont mind spending money to do things right the first time, nor do i mind spending money to redo something because it wasnt good enough. . This isnt my first rodeo hot shot, structures i know, airfoil selection i know very little about and err'd to ask for assistance and opinions on and have learned some things in the process.

Thomas,
Don't sweat the inspection. One of my superpowers is X-ray vision, so I can check it out for you when it is done. I usually keep my superpowers to myself, so as not to make mere mortals feel insecure.

ROFLOL! thats Awesome man! I'll try not to lose sleep over it, the CAD model is roughly 40% done, then i'll need to separate things for the CNC to make up the boom and pod plugs. I'll probably end up making a CNC hotwire cutter at this rate. ha

Once i get done with this all composite airframe and the kits i have already sold, i'll be able to devote more time to the Pond Racer.

I used the SD6060 on my Czech Mate warbird racer and it has proven to be pretty speedy as well as very "pilot friendly" even with the highly tapered planform. I modified it to be 13% at the root and 10% at the tip with a degree or so of washout incorporated. Worth considering anyway.

A good program for foils and designing wings is CompuFoil3D, you can print templates for your star insertions, I have used it for several years now, make designing a wing so much simpler. The structure; spars, LE and TE are not the problem, it is the ribs and putting in all the lightening hole and stringer notches that on a big wing takes day. It is done in a matter of a couple of hours!

I'm a big fan of foam wings, done correctly they are light, strong and the airfoil comes out more accurate then on a built up wing. Here is a cutaway from one of my pylon airplanes. The spars go full span and are wrapped in glass and capped with CF. The joiner is vertical grained balsa faced with CF cloth and attaches to the spars in the rear and retract mount at the front. CF cloth is used from the spar forward out just past the retract mount. The balsa sheeting gets a layer of 3/4 oz cloth between the foam and sheeting to control resin content. The whole deal gets bagged.

Foam wings are cool when done right.
I currently do built up wings (more age related than any other reason) and had considered doing a foam.balsa/glass/carbon version as you have pictured above. But at this point I am really thinking about doing molded skins with ribs and spars for my next project, as opposed to foam to get a bit more air into the build (if you know what I mean) and still keep the strength up.
One of the other reasons I am considering the molded skins in billeted molds is the outer portion of the wing goes from 3/8 of an inch thick to 1/4 thick at the tip in a span of seven inches using a 8% airfoil. There is nothing I can do internally is going to buy me much for strength so it going to have to be pure stressed skin construction there anyhow, still have to figure how to hang the ailerons off of that as well.

If you are already doing wing skins may as well just incorperate skin hinges.

Just remember that only two things are required for flight.
