Aeroworks Old 100cc Edge 540 T
I bought a used older style edge 540 100cc 33%, its my first giant scale and I have no idea how to set it up. The servos are already taken care of I just need help with finding the best Battery (or batteries) for the plane... no clue, the only thing isI dont really want to use the 123 batteries or whatever they are... dont like them. AnywayIm going to be using a JR xp 6120 TX. Only 6 Channels so next question is how the heck do I hook up 4 wing servos (Jr 8611's) and 2 elevator servos (same as wing) to a 6 channel RX??? (The rudder is going to be a single JR 8711 and throttle is just going to be a standard JR servo, those are kinda a given on hook up) HELP!!!!!!!! Thanks guys!

Hey, I also just picked one up. Still brand new in the box. Will be looking forward to see what people say about it.
Do you happen to have the manual? That is what I need.

RE: Aeroworks Old 100cc Edge 540 T
Hey Guys! I had a kit built Edge 100cc that Ijust sold last week. If you have the Kit version, I have the manual that applies to all of the 28%-31%-35%-39%. When I bought mine, I researched and could not find a 33% (which is what you listed, and mine was also advertised as 33%, but believe it was 35%...which is standard for 100cc... 33% is usually 80/85cc). I would highly recomment Lithium Ion batteries... you can find great stuff from Fromeco. For the servos... if you're only going to use 6 channels you will need either a JRMatchbox, Futaba MSA-10, or some type of Power Expander that can synchronize servos (I'm not sure which model would be best for that, but look up SmartFly equipment). I tried to upload the manual... but it's too big (file is 4mb), so if you want a copy, just send me your email address and I'll send it to ya! Good Luck with the Edge's!!!

Hey thanks for the info ill took the stuff up. Yea the Edge is bout a 35% insted of a 33%. Mine is the ARF version, the guy that had the plane before me was big in 3D and he said the plane does amazing in the air. Supposed to be a very stable floating plane I cant wait to get it in the air! Should be up and going in a couple months. Im actually looking into updating to a JR 8 Channel. . . not sure yet depends if i can get one cheap enough.

Hey guys, I'm finally starting my build on this thing. Its not the qb series but its a nice plane. But the plane I got from the guy didn't have any hardware. None.... maybe if rocco or mark are reading this they might know as well. But what hardware package do I get? I would be fine with aeroworks stuff. I just need to know which size of everything. Its the older aeroworks edge 540 100cc size. Any ideas?? Also need tail wheel bracket and main landing gear.
Thanks
Steve

Steve,
We used to offer a hardware package for the airplane but stopped offering that about 5 years ago. There should be a list of needed hardware items in the manual, if you did not get the manual I have attached a copy of it below.
You can get a new gear from Graphtec R/C or TNT Landing Gear.

Thanks mark for the manual. It helps a lot. Do you happen to have the manual for the arf version as well? I have the arf version.
Thanks.
I plan on going to ace hardware later to buy the bolts I will be needing. Then ordering everything else later from aeroworks.
Thanks
Steve

If you have no idea what you are doing, should you even be considering this aircraft ? ?

Sorry but I absolutely agree with him. A plane of this type is not easy to setup and is even harder to fly. If he doesn't know how to link the servo's together or what batteries to run to power the servo's, he really should be learning on something less expensive, less difficult, and way lass dangerous.

If he doesn't know, we should help him. Isn't that what these forums are all about? And in his original post it says this is my first giant scale. I don't think he said first airplane. Correct me if I'm wrong please. He probably knows how to setup a normal glow airplane. But yes, with bigger planes you need more reliable equipment and such. And that's why he's here asking.

Hmmm... didn't we all have a "first" giant scale plane? Is there a better way to learn than to try building one and ask for help from fellow flyers with giant scale stuff?!?!?!?

RE: Aeroworks Old 100cc Edge 540 T
Ok ive been flying and building rc planes for over 11 years now. And over 9 of those have been a wide variety of glow planes. Like the opening fourm begins THIS IS MY FIRST GIANT SCALE PLANE...Thank you ss_camaro69 and Westwindpilot86 for actually realizing where im coming from. As for djindivik and zachfeen, I seriously doubt you two know exactly what you were doing the first time you started something new. Dont comment on a fourm if your not planning on helping. The plane might be easier to fly for you if you knew how to fly it....

Well... with the transmitter im staying with 72 mhz and i would like to get a 8 channel. .
Well... with the transmitter im staying with 72 mhz and i would like to get a 8 channel. .
I'm sure there's been a lot of conversations about 72mhz versus 2.4 But,,, with that small fortune you've got invested thus far,,, Go 2.4 9 channel like the JR9503 with the 921 Rx for a few bucks more,,, you won t regret it. Its simple to program and if you get stuck the folks at Jr are more than willing to help you out. As for the RX, its a dual battery input Rx. I went with the Smart-Fly power board Eq6 Turbo as well. Programming every thing was simple including setting up the matching and selecting the voltage to the servos. Thunder Power has 2C Lipos that are Rx ready,,, I went with the 2C 5300's (2 each)
And as for that across the pond guy comment,,, you guys drive on the wrong side of the road

Mark,
Do you have the dimensions for that landing gear for the older edge? Tnt landing gear needs the dimensions to make me a set.
Thanks

Here's the one I flew in IMAClast year... and it's been flying IMAC since '03. She's been through a few pilots/owners and is still solid today! These are such great planes.

Me too... Edge is definitely my favorite... the front shapeof the cowl is unbeatable! ...Ijust sold the yellow one in the pics, and the only reason is because I'm building a Carden Edge.
...and as I'm going thru my Edge pictures... Isaw this one and thought it may be of help to the people in process of building... this is the inside of mine so you can see the layout that made the CG spot on. ...of course, Iused mine for IMAC, so for 3D it could be more tail heavy. (for weight reference... Ihad 2 Fromeco 5200mAh packs and 2 Fromeco DCUPs at the back of the canopy, and a Fromeco 2600mAh pack up on the motor box for ignition)

Idon't know if you received an answer yet... but FYI, when I was replacing the gear on my Edge, Ibought one from Carden for the 35% Edge and it fit well... the only real difference was the height... the Carden gear made it a few inches taller, but I liked it for more prop ground clearance. If you're interested, I can measure the width on my Carden gear so you can compare how wide it is????
