Mark,

My plane should be here eariler this coming week. Ordered it thur TBM last Teus. or Wensday. Are you going to use cans, and if so, can you tell me the header drop that I need. Also, can I use front exit cans such as the MTW110(will the landing gear location allow this) or do I need the rear exit cans?

Thanks Jim
I am not going to use cans on mine, but I can tell you that the header drop is 50mm and yes you can use the front exit tubes.

Hey Mark,
I have two 35% QB Extras and both were a joy to put together. My question is what are the dimensions of the shipping crate for the
42% Extra? I have a full size pickup with an eight foot box with topper. Am very interested in driving to Denver to pick one up.
Thank you and Aeroworks for your quality products and support!.
I dont have the box demensions on hand but I can get them. I can however say that you can get all 3 boxes in an 8 foot bed without a problem since thats the way I got mine home. Let me know if you still need the demensions.

Hey Everyone,

Received my 42% Extra today. Serial # 22 . I order it last Wensday from TBM. First all, I bought this airplane with my own hard earned money, so I'm not sponsored or connected to Aeroworks in any way! I'm going to start a build thread here, and on the "other great site". I plan on reporting all the "goods" and "bads"(which looks like will be hard to find) of this airplane, from my stand point, so other modelers will know what to expect for their money.

It arrived is great shape, no doubt owing to the great packaging from Aeroworks! I've never seen an airplane better packaged for shipping. It sets the tone for the whole project. Upon opening the boxes(which took alot of work!!), I was blown away. This airplane is great! There is NOT A SINGLE wrinkle or flaw in the covering or the paint work. I'll be taking pictures tomorrow of all this ,and getting the thread started.

So far, I'm very impressed with what I see. Aerowork sure delivers a great first impression!

I'll be equipping as follows:

DA-150(can's or muffflers I'm still trying to decide)
All Fromeco equiped(on which I'm a dealer BTW if you need anything - I provide free shipping)
The new Wolvernie Switches
Tru-Turn 5" Spinner
12 - Hitec 5955's
2 - JR 955's RX's
SWB Arms
Hangar 9/Dubro Hardwar

I'm a firm believer in doing business with people that take care of their customers, so I buy everything I can thur Troy Built Models!

Jim

Jim,
Glad to hear that yours arrived. Please feel free to post on here as I am sure everyone would like to see how these go together from , like you said an unbiased builder, I think you will be very impressed by how this plane goes together.

I got the stabs done today but the camera is still at Aeroworks Duoh! So I'll try and get the pics up tomorrow night.

Here are a few pics of what I got done yesterday, My servos showed up so I figured I would get everything going as far as that goes. I am running 5955's as well, 2 per aileron, 1 per elevator and 2 on the rudder mounted in the tail. The cutouts for the rudder servos are already there and just need to be opened up. I also installed all of the control horns, since all of the holes are predrilled, this step is a snap!

More to come tomorrow.

Mark,

Are you going to use the pushrods supplied? I plan on Hangar 9 as I like the easy of being able to adjust them without unhooking. I don't have my servos yet, so can you give me the hole(servo arm hole) to hole(where the bolt goes thur the control horn) lenght for the ailerons and elevators?

Thanks Jim

Yes I am using the supplyed pushrods, I will also be using the carbon sleeve we provide to stengthin the pushrods. I will use the H9 links on the rudder however since we do not supply any in the kit for the rear rudder servos.
My servo arms will be the 1 1/4" arms supplyed with the servos and I will be in the outer most hole on the arms.
On the control horns for the wings I will be at the bottum hole on the root horn and the top hole for the tips as this compinsates for the taper of the wing.
I will be in the middle holes on the elevators.

I will post the Addendum later on today for what one needs to do.
The spinner size is 5" Tru Turn or Petes carbon will work fine.
Yes the hard point(s) do go up to the top of the surface for each servo.
We will hopefully have pics of the dashs posted on our website either today or tomorrow.

Thanks

Johny,
If you have seen the dash panels for any of our other planes that should give you a good idea as to how they look. They are very high quality and fit perfectly inside.
As for the 6 screws, those will do fine, there is plenty of hard wood to hold them in place. Just remember to put some thick CA on the screw before you put it in to insure an even stronger joint.

i have the dash panel for the 35% 260 fits perfect so the 42% should too. I was thinking like a 5.5 or maybe a 6 inch spinner would look better. but I don't think i have seen a 5.5 incher yet, maybe 6 incher would be pushing it.

I think a 6" would be a little on the big side, if you could find a 5.5 that would work fine. I am going with the 5" Petes models carbon spinner.

Also the addendum has been posted in our support forum. Please check it out if you plan to use cans, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Well on with the build! I hope to get this thing finished this weekend, or very close to it, since the weather is supposed to be bad all weekend. We just got in our new pilots heads and since they look SO good I just had to have one! Check it out! More pics to come tomorrw.

Well the wings and stabs are finished. Everything has been done using the supplyed hardware and went on without a hitch. A carbon sleeve is included to reinforce your pushrods and is stronlg recomended if using 2 servos per wing and 1 per stab.

Also here is a pic of the new helmet heads again along with the custom dash panel and petes models carbon spinner. Nothing like a little bling to spice up an already hot airplane!!

Got the mufflers and ignition installed. The two holes on each side of the motor box are perfect for routing the ignition cables.

Also got the throttle servo installed, I mounted it on the bottom side of the motor box. This makes setup very easy and allows for a short direct link to the carb itself. I also used a Titanium turnbuckle to make throttle setup even easier! I used one of the supplyed rubber gromets to route the servo lead back to the underside of the fuse floor.

Next up was cutting the cowl. My mufflers were a little off and as such the template was off. Please double check the template BEFORE cutting your cowl. If your mufflers are off like mine were the manual describes how to make a new template and is very simple to do. After I got that all figured out, cuting the cowl was easy and came out looking great!

Mark,

Well, I drove to Denver on March 19th and picked up the 150cc Extra. Rocco gave me the grand tour of his facilities and explained how his operation works. Last night I unpacked everything and put all of the major parts together to see how it looks. I am going to wait until you are finished with your build thread to see how you install everything and how your CG comes out. One question I do have is everything I have read in regards to gas engines is always keep radio equipment 12" away from the ignition system. How can you mount the throttle servo so close to the ignition box? I have all Desert Aircraft equipment. Does their design have something in it that prevents interference? Thank you for your comments.

Great Question flstn95. I had a recent loss due to radio interference and was advised by a Top Pilot and master builder to keep everything as far back as possible from ignition and no metal pushrod for throttle servo linkage. On my 100cc YAC I was using a motor box mounted servo with a metal pushrod for throttle. Batteries mounted also in the same area. Could this have been my problem. I had about 70 flights with 2 receivers on 1024pcm then I changed to a single Futaba G3 with 2 redundant battery packs and 2 switches, 6volt unregulated, all Hitec 5955. all was fine for about 10 flights....then all was lost. Sent everything in for a check out. Lou

With todays new Ignition systems there really is no need to worry about these issues. I have ran this setup on both of my 100cc's without issue and usually run the Ignition and reciever batteries right next to each other without issue. The best advice I can give however is that a GOOD range check is critical. If it passes this test you will be fine in the air. Let me know if you have any other questions regarding the build as I'd be happy to answer them.

Thanks.

The correct drop is 70mm you can find the canister installation addendum here:http://aero-works.net/upload/manual/...42extra260.pdf
