I'm in the process of putting this plane together and it feels tail heavy so far, I've read somewhere here that it balances perfectly if the manual is followed.
Any input gentlemen will be appreciated.
Btw I'll be reporting when I put in the electric robart gear.
Thanks

Rxrc,
Yes the plane balances spot on if you follow the Manuel. As far as putting the electric retracts in the plane. We have put the robart electric gear in the P51-D. this was a very simple process. proper CG was made buy moving the battery. You can always call our tech dept. for assistance or questions

Thanks tom
I also had 3 more questions:
1- how do I balance that spinner considering its "closed" at the top
2- how is the main gear door attached to the retract? I'm assuming dubro 2-56 ball links on either side of a threaded rod but how long is this rod and where do I get one?
3- has anyone used a servo for the inner gear doors? If so could someone upload pics of the setup or a description.
Thank you

Good morning,
The weathering was done in several steps. First I scotch bright the covering. It is important to scratch the covering in a fore and aft movement. I then used a ball point pen with no ink and a straight edge to draw the panel lines. The shading was done with an airbrush. The exhaust was also done with the airbrush. This process took about 30 hr. You can call me at Aeroworks Monday - Friday 8 to 4:30 mountain time for more info
Thanks Tom Bell

I just fininshed a 2nd P-51 for a friend of mine, installing the Sierra gear also. I set the balance point the same as mine, along with all the control throws as I know how well mine flies. It DID take about 8oz. of weight in the nose to get it to balance, but really no big deal as this plane is pretty light. Maiden yesterday, took off nice and straight, gear up and it took 2 clicks of down trim to fly straight and level hands off. Flew it around for a bit and then set up for a landing with full flaps. It was really a non event. My friend flew it 5 more times after that, again with no issues (whew!). His only suprise was how much right rudder needed on take-off, but he's never flown any larger warbirds.
Only "issue" is on the first couple of flights, we used a 22x8 prop, then switched to a 20x12. With the 20x12 prop, the higher speeds cause the right inner gear door to pull open (mine does the same thing). It's only the right side that does it. Have tried sealing up the wing thinking that it's pressurizing the wing, but that didn't work either, so I kinda at a loss. On mine, I may cut open the top of the wing and install servos for the doors, but until I get energetic enough, I just fly the crap out of mine and live with the door open at full throttle.
All in all, he was a very happy customer and went home with his new toy satisfied. Get a little more time on the engine, lean it out some, and he'll be soon
hot rodding around with the rest of us!

Russ,
Congrats on the maden.
You can put a small built up area just in front of the inner doors just high enough to be higher than the inner door, so It dose not catch the air at high speed. This fixed the problem on my plane.

I picked one of these up several weeks ago that had been crashed. In the process of rebuilding it and wood will be here on Wednesday. Just placed an order with Aeroworks for the cowling, canopy, radiator scoop and cockpit kit. The fuselage took a pretty nasty hit, but we have the technology to bring it back to life.
What was left of the fuselage has been stripped of covering and I have made templates to replace the formers and trays that were crushed in the crash. While I have it in the bones, I am also putting in a functional radiator door.
The plan is to do it up like Petie 3rd with some panel lines and weathering... I'll keep everyone updated with my progress on bringing this Mustang back to life.

As to not clog up this support thread, I have started a new thread on the rebuild.

Hay guys
I have owned a TF mustang and was just about to buy a another one. was also looking at the ESM corsair 85inch. I called the guy At auster models and asked about the ESM and if he had stock. He advised there was none. then he told me that he had this aero works P51D. so I jumped on Google to have a look. And was very impressed with what I saw. So I now own the only aero works mustang in Australia. will be writing a review when I get it flying and showing it at the local club to help sales.

Just finishing the build on my P-51.
I kept the installed air system for the gear doors only and went with the Robart electric gear all sequenced through my DX18.
Cant say enough about the quality of the plane and supplied parts, although it is what I've come to expect from Aero Works. This is my 4th Aero Works aircraft.
I added a I Fly Tailies instrument panel and installed hidden switches and air valve. I also put the Robart retracts on it's own battery pack.
Biggest disappointment is that I live in Illinois and with all the snow on the ground there won't be any flying for a couple of months yet.
