RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!
I flew me new Edge several more times and mine does not show any signs of snapping when I pull hard on the elevator - this plane flys better than the Extra 260 I used to have
This is the BEST flying plane I have owned yet...tracks perfect in the air

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!
Okay I am new to the post thing but I read alot of them to give me ideas to buy and fixes on other planes I bought (stole... thought I was getting a steal)!I had an old used Nitro Planes 50 cc Katana that didn't last 30 seconds on the maiden due to WING flutter. After talking to a very knowledgable friend he told me to bite the bullet and buy a really good plane brand new and he and I would build and maiden it together. i came to this thread and after this and other info decided to buy the AW 50 cc Edge. I already have a DLE 55 and will be using HS-7955 TG's on all surfaces. AW says that the next container will be in around mid November so as soon as I get the edge I will post the build and maiden as I go.

Wow no activity in here in almost a year. Anyways I have a green one on the way. Really looking forward to getting it as I have had my eye on it from day one. Curious to see how good if flys when compared to my 100cc Edge 540. I am going to use a DLA56 that I picked up about 6 months back. I did some minor tweaking to it and it ended up being a powerhouse. Turns a Xoar 22x8 at 7800. I will be going to a larger prop of course. Hitec 7954's all around.

The nice folks at AW are sending me my first 50CC Green/Blue/White Edge....
DLE 55 gets here tomorrow, hopefully the plane will be right behind...
Thanks Frank for your patience!!! And Rocco for your kindness as well
I'll report on the build... Now if we could just get it here by tomorrow!!!

Well what can I say!!!
This is one beautiful job...
Kit arrived in 2 boxes and took about an hour to unpack and sort through.
Took about an hour toi tighten the covering and get rid of the minimal amount of wrinkles.
Finished both wing panels tonight and will start on the Stab/Elevator tomorrow...
One suggestion for Mark/Rocco. The phillips head screws that are intended for the control horns take alot of pressure to screw in. This is ok as long as you have the right screwdriver/Tip. Why not consider using screws that would allow for using a ball driver instead of Phillips heads?
Aside from this the workmanship on the covering job and the overall construction is top notch... Thanks for all the effort you have put into this...
Laastly, what is the weight savings by ordering the Carbon accesories instead of the supplied aluminum?

r adical,
Thanks for the great comments on the 50cc Edge.
We have looked into supplying the socket head screws for mounting the control horns but have not been able to find a quality supplier in China for them yet. Micro fasteners sale some that work great! Visit link: www.microfasteners.com
Carbon Gear 7 oz
Aluminum Gear 9 oz
Carbon Wing/Stab tubes 7 oz
Aluminum Wing/Stab tube 10 oz
Let us know if you have any more questions
Thanks Again!
Rocco

Thanks Rocco
I am also considering adding the Control horns to the Ruder prior to hinging so as to reduce the chance of putting a screwdriver through it and dealing with the whole fuse when I do it...
Thoughts?

Well got the Stabs/Elevators done last night as well as the rudder mounted and the Rudder servo installed.. Gorilla Glue is great stuff, I love the expansion/Fill qualities of it...
Certainly putting the Rudder Control horns on prior to mounting the Rudder made the whole thing easier to work with. Less stress or chance of nicking the fuselage by doing it that way.
Tonight I should get through to the Engine Mounting and will do all of that tomorrow. There really is not a whole lot someone can do to screw this up...
One other note to Rocco/Mark as well as everyone else.
The version of the manual that I received on the CD in the kit still has the wrong measurement for the Firewall to Spinner.. EVERYONE make sure you download the Addendum from the website!!!!!! I know this has been mentioned previously here but.....
Should have a floor roller by tonight...
Also does anyone have any examples of a finished cockpit that a person could copy? How they did it etc?

I usually cut a piece of lite ply to fit acoss the canopy. I paint it grey and screw the pilot to it and then glue it into the canopy with silicon so it can be removed when needed. It needs to sit on top of the rails in the canopy or it will not fit back on the plane.

Well as I expected the Landing gear is now installed and rolling on the ground. This is just a fabulous kit. All of the screws are in individual bags and are easily identified. It just doesn;t get any easier.
Engine is next, then radio and smoke....
DLE 55 with a TME smoke system.
Maybe an engine run on Sunday

All went well. Flew rock solid with no tendency to stall on landing.... Flew knife edge with no coupling... only flew one flight cuz it is so damn hot and humid here
This is a definite keeper and now I need a home for my Brison 42cc
Could a 35 CC Extra be next?

I have flown my 50 cc edge 540 QB only a dozen or so times, but it flys like it's on rails. I have the 30cc on the build bench and just mounted the cowling. I'm getting close. I can't wait to see if it flys like it's big brother.

It will. I have over 65 flights on my 30cc Edge. I love the plane and it flies great. I am considering buying the 50cc version now.

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!
Hi guys... I plan on purchasing the AW Edge 540 50cc before month end. This will only be my second 50cc size plane. The other I bought used and pre-built. I plan on going somewhat all out on this model. DA-60, tuned pipe... etc.
Are most guys using some type of smart power system for this size aircraft? I understand that they regulate voltage etc, but is it "totally" necessary?
One of the best plane builders told me to not over-think things.
I will have a spektrum AR8000 receiver, with the new DX8. Wondering if I will need to program some type of throttle curve for the DA. We'll see I guess.
I will have an ignition kill, minimum two batteries..one for servos and one for ignition obviously.
I will search this thread to see if this was discussed already... Thanks for any help!!

Just finished mine with a da60. Havent flown it yet but ready to. 17lbs 5oz. Whoever says aeroworks planes are too heavy ive got to say theyre not that heavier than any other plane and built super tough
