Great report Rocco. Glad to hear it wasn't damaged too much. Sounds like it would be a good day to go out and buy a lotto ticket. ;)

RE: Aero Works P-51?

Hi Rocco,

Thank you for the extensive tour of the Aero Works facility yesterday. Steve and I were quite impressed.
After reading this P-51 forum this morning I feel compelled to tell the forum readers what I saw at the Aero Works place of business yesterday.
First off the P-51 prototype is exceptional.
But before I talk about the new Mustang, I'd like everyone to know why the Aero company itself is a outstanding.

Steve and I entered the Aero Works lobby/showroom and first noticed that the many model airplane magazine covers and product reviews that featured Aero Works planes were nicely framed and proudly displayed on the walls. Showcases held engines, servos, and many other r/c products all for sale. Your receptionist warmly welcomed us and promptly paged you. From the lobby, door's led to a cozy lunch room and to modestly furnished offices. (Nice to see that profits weren't wasted on opulent office furniture.)

Then Rocco escorted us through the "main" door that let into the warehouse and research and development area. Guy's, it's like a Costco store...only here the shelves are stacked to the ceiling with boxes each containing high quality, quick built model airplanes just wafting to be sent to you. Wow!!! almost describes it. Hanging from the ceiling is a collection of past and present Aero Works planes all ready and just waiting to go flying again. To support the planes that Aero Works sells there is an extensive inventory of spare parts on the shelves. So when you need a replacement canopy, a new pair of wheel pants, or whatever for your Aero plane...you can get it sent to you right now.

We then arrived in the R&D area. Mr. Dennis was busy there working on an engine. Rocco showed Steve and I that they have every popular engine and exhaust system right here. Nearby shelves held engines, manifolds, canisters, and tuned pipe exhaust systems each ready to be fitted into their prototype airframe designs. Aero Works planes are designed so that any of these popular engine and exhaust systems can be easily installed by you. Simple right? Rocco showed us the details of how a fuselage is engineered and built with engine mounts and openings to allow for any of the popular exhaust systems to fit right in. At first it looked simple, but after you see how extensively well thought out their airplane designs are...well... they are simply exceptional.

Then we got to the P-51 Mustang. The prototype is absolutely outstanding. Much about it's features has already been written earlier in this forum. So I won't repeat all of that.
I will close by saying that with the vast amount of engineering that has gone into this plane (two years now), the Aero Works P-51 Mustang promises to be as good as or even better than their existing line of products.
As good as, in the sense that Aero Works airplane standards are already top of the line. Design, fit, and finish are all outstanding. And, most importantly, they are designed and built to fly well. If you've flown one, or have read the reviews, you already know that.
Even better, in the sense that this will be their first QB plane, and war bird, that will include the complex systems of gear doors, actuators, and sequencers in addition to the retractable main gear and steerable tailwheel system. Even the cockpit canopy slides open.
And all of this will be pre built and ready to operate soon after you open the box that it comes in.

R/C flyer's are fortunate to have such a top quality company here to offer both great products and support services.

Enjoy,

Denny W

Any chance this aircraft will be offered in alternate schemes like the aerobats are?

I am thinking olive drab upper surfaces and grey undersides. Could have D-day stripes or not. Maybe like "Hurry Home Honey" or " Old Crow"...just something other than silver that actually looks like warbird paint...

RE: Aero Works P-51?

Rocco / Aeroworks,
I would make sure that you test fly the plane several times with the Keleo Muffler that you might offer just to be certain the design and/or quality will hold up for your application in this beauty you are releasing. I have had the keleo muffler in my hangar 9 Mustang and it has fallen apart at the welds in a number of places even after having sent back his muffler for a replacement by kelvin a number of times. I had since gone to a local master welder for repairing the replacement muffler, but everytime a reweld repair was done another part would fail at another original weld. I believe most warbird enthusiasts will be keen on maintenance of their models, but removing to reweld fragged mufflers wouldn't be high on anyones list. Just wanted to offer a handy .02 cents about that

Also, curious to ask you as we are now in March, when is an expected release date this month? Will you be putting up the ad for the model in your site? I think I might hold off on your 85CC Yak for this one, getting excited.
Thanks!
Louie

Louie,

Thanks for the advice I will look into it.

The plane is ready for production. I am finalizing the material list and price at this time
As soon as I have this finalized I will have both the cost and delivery date set and will post them on the web site.

I should have this within the next two weeks

Thank You
Rocco

The Bob Hover P-51 would be a easy one to get a ARC without the covering and do that one yourself.
I still like the military type 51's with all the stars and bars with drop tanks.
What retracts are we going to get??
Any word when???
Jim
