Introducing the new 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB! This completely new offering has been a long time in the making. Aeroworks was the first manufacturer to release an Edge to the aerobatic arf market, ever since we discontinued the original edge we have had many ,many requests for a new design. This new airplane is just that, a 100% redesign of the popular Edge 540 and it promises to be the best flying Edge you have ever flown! This new design incorporates all of the QB features we are known for. The 50cc Edge also includes a full canister/pipe tunnel for easy mounting, and a blind mounted cowling for a great scale appearance.

Be sure to stop by and see the new 50cc Edge 540 at the Toledo expo next weekend!

It definitely looks like a tweaked design. I see a fatter fuse, swept canopy, and a shorter squared nose compared to the full scale Edge. I don't know if it's good or bad, but it's different. Looks cool!

Compare it to this pic and the canopy position looks dead on, I bet once we see more pics and angles of the plane you'll be able to tell alot better if the scaled down AW Edge is dead on.

The New Edge 540 QB has a very scale outline. We worked on the design of this model for a long time to make the best looking Edge 540 on the market.

We plan on offering the plane in a couple of different color versions. Expected delivery is early to mid summer.

Thank you

That is the "original" Edge 540 that was used in the 1st or 2nd Red Bull Air Race when they hadn't started modifying the planes. Slicks are totally different airframes based on the Extra, Edge and, the Laser. The first pic is a Slick and the 2nd is an "original" Edge 540.

I like the AW Edge! It looks cool!

Great job Mark - I really like them both (kinda partial to the green and blue maybe). Also, I really like the pattern on the bottom much better than stripes - really looks good!

Cool!!!

All I have to say as an Edge 540 fan is I sure hope you guys release the 100cc next. If there is a 100cc Edge, I will be one of the first in line to buy one of those. Very, very nice looking plane but I hope you guys pick some different schemes for the 100cc Edge. Nothing wrong with these at all, just would like something more along the scale lines for a scheme.

Hey Guys, I got my Edge about two weeks ago, and they have taken the QB thing to the next level! I swear if you unbox it all, and leave it alone for a day, or two, it will build itself! I chose the Green, and absolutely love it! As soon as it comes out of the trailer, it has everyone's attention! With a cheapo, China, 52cc, the plane flys great. I bought this plane to start learning 3d, but I will say that it does IMAC very true! If I ever learn 3d, I will let you know how it does :). Even with multiple 100cc planes, the little AW edge540(.46-.61) has continued to be my favorite plane, but it should feel threatened now, as I am sure that this one will win me over within the next few flights! Rocco, and the rest of the crew, Great Job Guys!-Keep up the Good work!

Hey Mark,
I would like to know if the gear cuffs that is on the extra 300 will fit on the new edge?
Thanks,

Sorry but the gear cuffs will not fit. They are a totally different designed gear in size and shape.

Where is everybody ?!? Am I the only one to have bought, and flown one of these planes? I was suspecting that this thread would have exploded by now... I am actually having some problems with mine, and was hoping for others to post flying experiences so would know if it was just me??? Oh Well....

Hi There

I am looking to purchase this plane, and was curious to know what kind of problems you are having. Are they regarding the flight characteristics of the aircraft? Please fill us in! There's alot of people intently following this thread hoping it will have additional content

Thanks!
Andy

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!

Ya know, I hate to throw anyone under the bus, but I have given up on mine! I just gutted it to be a beautiful static display in my shop. I loved the way it flew, but I couldn't get it to settle down on landings. There is quite a bit of possitive incidence in the main wing( can be seen if you look at the picture, on their site, with the wing removed from the fuse, look at the relationship of the holes) I talked to Mark about the incidence, and he said this made it fly better, and it does fly awesome, I just can't handle the landings. I dreaded flying just because of that. There are a lot of things that can be done to overcome the issues, but in my experience, the incidence was put in to combat something else, and I don't feel like fighting ghosts. I have approx. 6 Edge 540's, and none of them have issues like this one, so I felt it best to lay this one to rest peacfully, as opposed to the inevitable!

RC Pile It,

I am sorry to hear you were having problems with your 50cc Edge. I talked with Mark about this today to see what he felt was going on and it seems that you might be a little tail heavy.

Did you ever measure the wing incidence?

What problems are you having? We have sold several hundred of the 50cc and 100cc Edge 540’s with great success.

Let me know if you have any questions

Thank You
Rocco / Aeroworks

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!

Hey Rocco, I didn't measure....I don't have a meter, as I trust, and love your planes, I have never needed one! Mark, and I had discussed this a while back, and he mentioned pushing the CG back a little. This made no difference, neither had moving it forward. It's no big deal, as I said, I have moved on, and will continue to buy, and fly Aeroworks planes!

I crudely measured and calculated 1.9 degrees with reference to the canopy/hatch line on RC Pile it's plane.

RC Pile It 11-23-2009 03:50 PM

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!

Hey There! I talked to Rocco this morning, and he said that there is zero incidence between the main, and horz., and a little bit on thrust line, but that was it. He made it clear to me that the canopy line isn't a true line to follow, we needed to set the horz. as a reference(zero) then measure everything from there...The fuse will fly in a tail high attitude, but all of the surfaces are true to each other in the air. We couldn't come up with any solutions to my problem, and with the plane no longer flyable, we will probably never know, but he assured me that they are on their third build cycle(refering to quantity sold), so they have sold a bunch, and no other problems have surfaced, so maybe mine was just a balance issue, or some other isolated occurrence.

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!

Hi Rocco, or Mark,
I'm looking to get me one of these new edge's coming this early spring. (wish I could now with the sale, but x-mass) Anyways, I'm thinking of the new 3W55xi, for the motor. But it is on the heavier side, compared to DA. My question is: on the bottom of the plane. The hatches, can I remove all of them, plus the blind nuts. And just recover over the holes. Just trying to save some weight. Will this put the strength of the model in jeopardy in any way.
Also, Is the model made where I can put the rudder servo in the tail?

Thanks,
Don.

Aero-Works 12-11-2009 02:42 PM

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!

Don,

Yes, you can remove the bottom hatch covers and cover over the holes with Ultracote. This will Not affect the strength of the plane. However, we remove the front hatch below the engine box and use the tunnel and bottom hatch cutouts to provide more hot air exit airflow. This allows you Not to have to cut out the bottom of the cowl as much giving the plane a very clean look and provides excellent airflow.

Let me know if you have any further questions

Thanks
Rocco

What about the rudder servo. Is there a place to mount it in the rear?
