RE: Full scale flyers....roll call.
Hi All:
I flew the ugliest airplane in the us military inventory - nicknamed the Willy Fudd. The E1b. How bad was it. In Viet Nam, if we lost an engine off the catipult, the black boxes were actually numbered in the back. The crew would start throwing them out the hatch until we had lightened the airplane enough to rise above ground effect flight and return to the boat.
I would post a picture but I am too prideful!

Loud, hot in the summer, cold at altitude, slow and tired. After the Viet Nam cruise, I transitioned to the E2. It was louder still.

Just got my Flight instructor Certificate this last week. Took me forever but I finally got it done! Currently I have my Commercial License, Intrument Rating and CFI. I am currently a Air Force C130 mechanic but I got accepted to Oficer training and a Pilot Slot! SO it looks like before long I will be in the Texan II as well!

Got my PPL in 1967, Comm. in 1968, and MEL about 15 hours later. I've flown all models of the PA-28. Twins are PA-30, BE-55, and C-310. I've owned two Helio's which one got sent to the scrapyard, not by account.
Don't fly much anymore, but looking at getting another Helio when the time permits

Had a Piper Cherokee 180 for 10 years (no pics in this computer) with a friend, we were both BMW tech's, did all our own work and had everything we did inspected and signed off by a A&P from the Palo Alto airport (CA), we treated her like a show car, leading edge landing lights plus the factory nose light, strobes, nice paint, wheel pants, polished aluminum air ducting, prop, spinner and the entire inside of the cowl, push rod tubes, I even polished the inside of the cargo door and scissors on the main gear and all of it was clear coated except the prop and spinner. Fawn leather interior with a black leather dash hood, would fly to Half Moon Bay on some Sunday's for one of those $50.00 hamburgers...
We sold it in 03 to a 55 year old student pilot who promptly parked it on top of a sound wall at one end of the Carson City airport runway while doing T&G's totaling it, he survived.
When you have a plane and hangar its your first home...
I don't like the voices I hear in your head...

Iacquired my PPL at 17 also. My instructor ( James Seaman ) died in a Baron Beechcraft with 5 others onboard, a whole family, in Joplin, Missouri. He was my best friend/ mentor and when he died,a part of me went with.
James and I went on a night flight once and he said ( When you are flying at night and your engine fails, turn on your landing light, if you don't like what you see, turn it off ).
Those words have haunted me till this day.

I used to race "dirt track" years ago at Baylands Raceway Park in Fremont Ca.
I would sometimes go down to the west side of the end of the drag strip to the glider port where Cessna 188's were used as tugs.
There were 3 of them there in a corner of the storage lot, all balled up...[]
The manager said the wrecks were caused mostly by over confidence so.... be careful.
I would watch these things land at Calistoga where I took glider lessons (long ago) and the pilots would grease them in every time on the grass field with nary a bounce.
BTW... Last time I was at Calastoga, 6-7 years ago, the glider port was closed down and all over grown...[&o]

I earned my PPL in '93 and my CFII in '96. Taught in Houston, Tx. One of the busiest Class B's in the U.S. Have multiple hrs. in Katana, C-150, 152, 172, 172rg, 182, 210, Piper 140, 160, 180, Warrior, Archer, Arrow, Turbo Arrow, Geronimo (Apache with 180 horse engines,) Beech Duchass, and last but not least a 1956 Beech D-18. I have done teaching, ferry flying, cargo, charter, and just for fun. Through all of that I have learned that the best type of flying is the kind that puts me at the controls.

RE: Full scale flyers....roll call.
Been flying full scale for 10 years or so (wow 10 years allready?) and RC for 25 (yikes i feel old now)
Got a float endorsment 9 years ago and now I can't catch a fish without an airplane!
I am restoring a 47 Luscombe 8A with a C90-12, and no electrics....note to self....never buy annother polished aluminum airplane! there's a lot of work to get back to a polished finnish after it's been neglected for a few years.

Nice polish job Garfred, looks great, mine is almost there, but without the wheel spats (pants), and it's a dark red stripe and interior
My cousin has a 47 8A (with a round tail) and a 49 T8F thatys almost done it's restoration, so there are a few Luscombes around here.

Just retired after 42 years as a pilot. I flew so many airplanes I lost track of some. flew alot of the WWII warbirds, corporate jets, and Transport category airliners. My last ride was as a Captain in the Boeing 747-400LCF. You may have seen it at Oshkosh in 2008. It could make and interesting large scale flyer. Check it out on the WEB. put in "Dreamlifter".

Got my PPL 4 years ago. Ben flying most Cessna and Some light sport. Built a Murphy Rebel while I was getting my PPL, and then sold it to build an Arion Lightning. It's a two seet composite that cruises at 180 and won the "Lightning of the Year" award in 2009. Getting back into RC because the cost of owning my own airplane is just too high. I'll still continue to fly, but will rent for now. I may change my mind about that later.

Got PPL about28 years ago. Before that i flew hang gliders then ultralite aircraft (quicksilver) Purchased a cessna 152 converted it to a tail dragger then in the late 80s i got the home building bug and built an RV6 (taildragger)and my wife and i flew to Oshkosh in 89. I must say that was something, every home builders dream to touch down at the Oshkosh air show. Most of my time is in tail draggers, once and a while in a Champ or Cessna 140. A grass field is what i learned on and a compass/deadreckoning was the main way to navigate,if you were lucky a VOR station was near by and that was fun .I would hate to pay for a private license now, a lot of cash and a lot to learn.I have not done any flying in a few years it just got to expensive.
