This big, beautiful bird is part of a commercial aviation museum in Kansas City. Today I was lucky enough to see it coming in on final and got the landing on video

We had a connie on the end of the runway where I went to flight school. They broke it en route to a museum. It was there the whole time. I am told that they tried to fly it out after I left and had a problem, brought it back, left it for another few months, then got it fixed and flew it home. Was a cool looking bird. There is one in Helena Montana with a huge hump on its back. Gotta be some kind of radar thing for weather or tracking something. They haven't flown it in years. I think the A&P school uses it for training. Sweet looking bird.

Sweet! I just love those unexpected airplane treats. You never know when you're going to get one. They are so rare that is just makes them more enjoyable when they do happen.

I flew the Connies for TWA in 1957, Seaboard and Western 1958, and they farmed me out to Aer Lingus.

I got furloughed, was recalled to ACTDY, sent to Saufley, instructed in the T-34 for 3 years, then got orders to VR-7A, Tachikawa AFB, where I flew them as the C-121, but we always called them the R7V.
By this time, I had been recalled to TWA, no more Connies, instead I flew the Convair 880's.
