Default What are you paying for rent?

The FBO recently raised their rent on both of their airplanes and it made me wonder how out of line they actually are. I can rent a C152 in okay condition for $78 wet or a Cherokee 180 for $110. I thought this was high until I went to another airport and saw a C150 for $85 and their C140 and Cub for $90. I was just wondering what everyone is paying.

I rent a "well used" DA-20 for $89/hr wet, and a "brand new" (< 150 hrs on a primary trainer) DA-20 C1 Eclipse for $110/hr wet.

Sounds okay to me. Try to sit down when you see the price of Avgas these days.

Yep, pretty depressing!!

Get a few guys together that you can trust, and partnership up. Thats what I do now, but I am really thinking about getting an experimental or even an ultralight for local fun, then renting for XC if I need to.

OR, fly gliders!

Thanks for the feedback. I am apparently not paying too much. Avgas is $4.83 and Jet A is $5.63[X(]. I am definitely seeing a decrease in activity and a lot of people have stopped flying lately including me[].

5.63 for Jet sounds good to me! Head on over to Signature SFO, your credit card will catch fire just from the proximity.

Just checked AirNav, $7.68/gal. Oh yeah!

Default RE: What are you paying for rent?

Best I could find in the Tucson area is $96/hour wet for a well-used 1982 (or '81? I forget...somewhere around there) 172, and their 150 I believe is $76/hour. I flew a few times in the 172 but with all the stuff that's been going on lately (new job, moving, car work, etc) I haven't really had the money to fly. I haven't been up since December and it's killin' me. I should just go for it one weekend I guess....I just don't want to totally lose it or forget my basic radio/traffic procedures for the local airport (which is new to me). Hopefully once things settle down a little here I can start putting in some serious stick (ok, yoke....) time. Maybe if I ever buy a motorcycle like I'm thinking of doing, I'll save enough $$$ to at least put in 2 or 3 hours per month.

And I remember just a few years ago in flight training thinking that a nearby airport charging $65/hour for a somewhat rough 1960's 150 was too much! Of course, I guess it is when you consider that as of about a year and a half ago (dunno if it's changed since then), I could rent a pretty rough 150 at my (then) local airport in Indiana for $50/hour wet!

also he owned the plane leased it to the FBO, AND 100 hour inspection were done every 50.

flight schools CFI were $30.00/hour

I am paying $120. a hour plus $10. fuel surcharge total $130. The great news is the aircraft is a 2005 Cessna 172SP, G-1000 Glass Cockpit & air. I also rent a 1996 Archer III with air for $125 with the fuel surcharge. It has the Garmin 430 GPS.

That is an awesome price for that equipment. That Archer III with 430 or dual 430s is one sweet bird. Cant complain about a G1000 either for that matter.

For a well used Cessna 172 in Mesa AZ (KFFZ) the rate is $125/hr wet and fuel tax. I am just done with flying lessons at the same airport and it took me 1 1/2 years, 69 hrs and $14,000 to get my Private Pilot ticket...I am just disgusted about the whole deal, a very bad experience...

Wow, what happened? Dude, flying is supposed to be fun.....I'd just hang it up for a while if I started getting burnt out (in fact, I did, after flight school.....though "discovering" aerobatics gave me a whole new lease on flying and I wish I could somehow get paid to go bore holes in the sky with a Pitts or something all day, haha).

That's a whooolllle lot of money though, wow.

Fortunately I can rent a new warrior for $60/hr wet with a six pack or $64/hr wet with a glass setup... My room mate works for cirrus and is part of their flight club, he rents their SR-20 for $40/hr wet!!! that's rediculously cheap, cheaper than driving nowadays...

$40/wet for an SR-20 is less than the actual gas it burns, let alone the other variables. That's a great deal for him.
