Even dumber, I saw a vid of a dude who figured he could fly a HELICOPTER with ZERO training. The flight lasted only a few seconds and was fatal.

Insurance is the least of it. The Fed will continue it's stranglehold on every form of flight. Unless you're a commercial operation, it'll just become too expensive to conform and no one will want to fly anymore. Perfect solution for the government.
The insurance of course is right behind, no chance of us dismissing it out of hand. Try to get insurance in a light twin if you're not a commercial rated pilot, or even if you are an ATP try flying a pressurized twin without going to a "formal" school. It's forced regulation. Of course it's caused by greed, and Darwin seekers like these clowns. Maybe the husband in this case was seeking to commit the perfect crime?

For what its worth in the vidio just above that helicopter was not a homebuilt and its either a Hughs 269 or the later Sweitzer 300.

Also willing to bet the location is Fla Bob airport in Rubidoux California.

Sometimes stupidity ends up being painfull. Unfortunately all pilots end up being percieved in the same group as these idiotic individuals.
