Steen Skybolt sponsored by Mennen
In the mid 70s I saw this at Oshkosh. The top wing had " Thanks, I needed that " written on it, and the smoke the airplane used was made to smell like Mennen aftershave. So clever. I am looking for pictures of this aircraft and any other information I can use. I would like to duplicate this plane and the aerobatic routine. Help?

Big Ed Mahler and his Mennen Special (modified PJ-260) was over the top for his time, and his SkinBracer Aftershave scented corvus oil has never been topped. |

Correct. It was Mahler's PJ-260, not a Steen Skybolt.
Saw that plane once. The smell of the smoke was quite apparent. Walt Moucha produced a kit of the Mahler biplane. He may have info on that version although he called his a Senior Aero Sport and the color scheme was entirely different. Here's a link to a pic of and RC version of Mahler's plane: Attachment 2261156 |
It was September 23, 1977 six days before my 15th birthday. My dad came and signed me out of school and we flew out to Suffolk Municipal Airport in his Maule M-5 from here in NJ. We got there while Ed was removing the tail strut on the PJ260 anyway..... A day I will never forget....spent many days down at Eddy's hanger off the end of Sky Manor Airport as a kid.
