Information about the Sanwa/Airtronics SD-6G:

http://www.rcheliresource.com/breaki...nwaairtronics/

"Sanwa, sold under the Airtronics Brand in the States is releasing this new SD-6G 2.4GHz system. It’s a digital 6-channel radio with 10 model memory, digital trims, 5-point throttle and pitch curves, CCPM mixing, flight timer, and more. No official word when it would be sold State side, or how much it would sell for."

I sent MinnFlyer to the Toledo Weak Signals Expo and he got this footage of the SD-6G for me:

Mike Greenshields says we should be looking at $179.99 when the SD-6G is released.

Our friends at Model Airplane News are reporting a bit of additional information:

"Airtronics SD-6G

The new Airtronics SD-6G is an affordable computer 6 channel radio with many advanced functions making it suitable for aircraft and helicopters.

CCPM mixing, gyro switch, and 3 flight modes make it perfect for sport gas and advanced electric helis. In aircraft mode, we also have 3 flight modes and advanced wing templates and programmable mixing. This is a 2.4GHz radio of course and it is compatible with all of the very affordable FHSS1 Airtronics receivers. The SD-6G 2.4GHz is a full range, affordable, computer radio.

Available Summer 2010

Item No 90406

Price, Approx $180."

They also have a picture of it with the Airtronics branding and the LCD screen activated:

RE: Sanwa/Aitronics SD-6G Unofficial Thread

There hasn't been much new information released on the SD-6G lately. Out of curiosity, I went poking around at www.sanwa-denshi.co.jp and found out a few things using Google translation:

-The SD-6G will have 8 character model naming
-The SD-6G will offer dual rates and expo on RU as well as AI and EL
-The SD-6G will use 6 "AA" batteries instead of a standard transmitter pack
-The SD-6G will offer graphic display of its 5 point throttle curves and 5 point pitch curves
-The SD-6G will support nine different kinds of swash plate

I would have preferred a standard transmitter pack battery myself, but perhaps it can fit a 2S LiPo or the NiMH pack from the SD-10G.

Overall, the SD-6G is shaping up as a really strong offering at $179.99. Hopefully "Summer 2010" doesn't mean September 20th and we'll see these in the near future.

One last note - if any of this information turns out to be incorrect, it's Google Translation's fault and not mine! :D

Also note the manual is available for download at airtronics.net
I'm sure there will be a lot of tech questions. The manual is very informative.

Mike

Is the SD-6G user changeable to Mode 1?

I fly mode 1. I did this change myself on my SD-10G without any drama.

MikeGreenshields 08-24-2010 09:53 PM

RE: Sanwa/Aitronics SD-6G Unofficial Thread

I do not know about the agent there, but here, we will have to carry a mode 1 and mode 2 version because it is not user switchable. Both the computer and the physical sticks take quite a bit of work to change between the two modes.

RE: Sanwa/Aitronics SD-6G Unofficial Thread

I had the SD-10G, so I got the 6G for my wife...

The only thing I don't like is no option for the batteries. It takes 6 AA batteries and come with NiMH 1200mAh...

Will I be able to charge this radio from my Triton2EQ? I don't want to be stuck with a slow charge walwart....

MikeGreenshields 08-26-2010 12:47 PM

RE: Sanwa/Aitronics SD-6G Unofficial Thread

Yes, you can use the field charger as long as you keep the charge rate under 1 amp. Also, those batteries will last more than a day of flying. Fully charged you'll get 4-5 hours of use.

RE: Sanwa/Aitronics SD-6G Unofficial Thread

I feel much better now...

I typically have never charged higher than 600mAh through any Tx...So I should be good...

MikeGreenshields 08-26-2010 05:53 PM

RE: Sanwa/Aitronics SD-6G Unofficial Thread

We have flown a lot with this setup. Gone weeks without recharging. We're using the same stock charger and those same cells in the SD-5G in little park flyer Cessna 310B we pass around at our club. The TX almost NEVER gets charged the day before we fly. (No one really ever remembers to do it.) It's always fine. Unlike the days of 72, 2.4GHz radios sip power in comparison (unless they have a giganto color back lit screen the size of Miami...).

RE: Sanwa/Aitronics SD-6G Unofficial Thread

So this comes with 6 rechargable batts that equal 1200mah and last 4-5 hours of flying? Also am I reading wrong or does the price also include a rx pack? and you can use a quick charger as long as you keep it to 1 amp or under?

MikeGreenshields 08-30-2010 07:05 PM

RE: Sanwa/Aitronics SD-6G Unofficial Thread

1. TX battery included only, RX battery is NOT included.
2. TX battery can be field charged, but must be under 1 amp.
3. Included charger is a dual charger that will charge the TX 6 cell pack and a typical 4-5 cell rx pack at the same time.
4. TX batteries are Hi-Energy cells and will provide very good run time per charge.
