Default How many would opt out of Model Aviation?

It seems that some AMA members would opt out of getting Model Aviation. Just how many would opt out?

Just picked this up from June MA thread.

ORIGINAL: KidEpoxy

Folks are ALREADY OPTING OUT and not getting MA,
Just how many have done this? Do you feel that more than .01% of the membership would do it? As it has been pointed out the option already exists. Or is the core of the issue that a reduction in dues should go to those that opt out. Lets see what the poll tells us.

Depends..Dah... on the reduction of the "dues"...as you put it... I pay RCU about fifty bucks a year...totally by choice!... because I believe it to be a much better value than most publications. I might would divert funds to them only if given a choice but choice isn't likely...with current "AMA or no way" mindsets of the GOBs in AMA today...

BTW I remember your disdain of RCU... Would you pay RCU full tilt??... I'll just look and see for myself...thanks anyway. Oh, I looked... I guess you wouldn't. Oh well... to each his own... Oh wait...that is problem for some...Sorry, once again...

Sorry, just my views and you asked...

Now, keep in mind I like MA. Just need to mention that before the all condescending replies that I have become so accustom to.

Just picked this up from June MA thread.

ORIGINAL: KidEpoxy

Folks are ALREADY OPTING OUT and not getting MA,
seems that sniplet of text you quoted ends with a comma
... I wonder came after that comma

oh, heres the complete whole paragraph without Reds Edit:
Folks are ALREADY OPTING OUT and not getting MA,
they just are still being billed for the magazines sent elsewhere or not sent at all (ala Stickbuilder)
...

Or is the core of the issue that a reduction in dues should go to those that opt out. Lets see what the poll tells us.
If that is what you want your poll to tell us,
maybe you should have the poll mention that ANYWHERE in the choices or even the subject line.
For example, you somehow accidentally are forcing ALL folks that like getting the magazine
appear to be for forcing everyone else to get the magazine.
You dont have options for
i) I like getting/payingfor the magazine and dont care what others do
ii) I like forcing everyone to get/payfor the magazine regardless if they want to pay/get it

You'd get better results of your 'I Don't Want MA Anymore' desire to those who don't want it anymore.... If you posted in the genuine AMA Site Forum.

Don't use the RCU AMA forum as a bit*h session, use your energy on the site that really matters.. use the AMA site.

this is NOT my poll,
if you want to share your opinions of RED's poll,
(or his as you identified it as, using "the RCU AMA forum as a bit*h session")
then dont point your gripes at me

and also again,
point to the post in this thread where I said I dont want MA.
It is VERY hard for me to stop doing what I am not doing, cause ya know, I already am at a stop

That's bizarre,
The last time I checked, I noticed my UNEDITED post did NOT have your name in it.

To be very honest with you KE, my current interest of you wanting or not wanting MA is less than zero.

actually...
look in the bottom right hand corner of the post.
intended or not, there is KE's name.

that one bites a LOT of folks, and RCU should probably turn it off, but...

(in reply to KidEpoxy)
if you are going to post at folks other than the one above you
(the one your post identifies as being in reply to)
you should identify who you are talking at

I have NO IDEA why it says that.

I think it's because I'm the next post.

Trust me KE, if I'm talking to you....I will make it clear (without looking at the 'in reply to') and you will know.... there will be no question to ANYONE reading along that I'm addressing you.

The subject was addressed on the official AMA forum in November of 2009 in the forum Optional Model Aviation.
see http://www.modelaircraft.org/forums/fb.ashx?m=2090 Dave Mathewson gave some good background information regarding optional MA. But as now, the same group are still singing the same old song. With less than .01% of the members wanting to opt out I doubt if it is going to happen the way some would like to see it. But you are right FILE IFR, discussions here will have zero impact on what the AMA does or doesn't do in regard to MA. Now we return to our regular recreational arguing program.

The topic was addressed in the AMA's forum in November 2009 in the thread Optional Model Aviation. Dave Mathewson gave a concise history of optional Model Aviation.

If a person wants to opt out thats up to them, but keep in mind they are not gonna reduce Dues. because it doesnt cost them more then a few cents an issue, your dues are not paying for a magazine, like would be the case with another magazine like model airplane news. with the AMA MA is more like a newsletter.

I voted for getting the magazine.

I don't understand what all the rucus is about the magazine. About 5 years ago I was out at the airfield, as a spectator, to see the planes. One of the guys came over and asked me if I wanted fly a plane. Without hesitation I hopped up and he took me up with a buddy box. After a few flights, I expressed how much I appreciated it and how much fun it was. He then went to his truc and gave me a copy of the magazine. I read every sinlge word in that issue and instantly I was hooked.

The reason I told this story is if it wasn't for that magazine I may not be in this great hobby. It has everything in it you need to learn to get started, advanced information, and where to look for information. All the way from TX, RX, batteries, planes, plans, events, and etc.

I think I would have to agree with Chobits that MA is more like a newsletter with a wealth of infromation.

I voted to receive the magazine. I think the AMA should have the magazine, and should have commercial sales of the magazine as well as supplying it to members. I don't think much of the magazine, but I would like it to continue in the hope that it will get better as time goes by.

Chobits
because it doesnt cost them more then a few cents an issue, your dues are not paying for a magazine
that assumption is incorrect

It is printed in each issue of MA (June2011 pg171), the infamous Graytext $18,
where even the magazine itself says $18 of your 'dues' is for the magazine.
Additionally, last year we had an AMA comptroller make it simple, in no unclear terms,
that of your $58, that is $18 for the magazine + $40 for all of AMA except the magazine.
ORIG: AMA comptroller, http://www.modelaircraft.org/forums/...?m=448&mpage=4 ,Post #75

$18 is used by the members for a subscription to MA. The remainder of member’s dues, $40, is used to cover other member services, insurance for one.
Multiple AMA sources have made it clear
that Opens are getting $18 yoinked from their $58 explicitly "for" the magazine,
not 'a few cents' as you presumed

At this rate it just might be the only Model Airplane magazine in a few more years.

When this poll goes south on the "I want to opt out of MA" crowd as sure as day follows night there will be a:

"I want to opt out of the AMA scholarship program"
"I want to opt out of my dues going to competition teams"
"I want to opt out of my dues going toward the AMA field in Muncie
and the big one....................
"I want to opt out of insurance"

Once the precedent is set that you can opt out of a AMA benefit like MA, then where does it stop?

The goal of the few is clear....................... to financially hamstring the AMA.

Your probably right...AMA probably wouldn't exist as an organization that only promotes model aviation...

I like the magazine too but would likely opt out for a dues reduction of $10-$18 per year. It's another gallon of fuel.....
