Default Does the AMA Prorate Membership?

I have not been active/flown for sometime.
I want to join the local club and they prorate membership.
But to join I have to have my AMA card.
I was looking at the website and do they prorate at all?
There is less than 2 months left in the year.
Or, is your membership one year from the time you join again.
The website does not say.
Does anyone know?
Retired and I have to watch the money and I cannot see spending $48 for less than two months of membership at this point.

The answer to your question can be found in AMA Document #912, "Membership Dues Options"

http://www.modelaircraft.org/files/912.pdf

WHAT: ** Dues policy for new, OPEN full category members.
WHY: To clarify the length of time your membership is valid, according to the
date of your dues payment. This is necessary since AMA membership
works on a calendar year basis starting January 1st, rather than the date of
your dues payment.

HOW: FIRST QUARTER: If you join AMA as a first time, new member from
January 1st through March 31st, you will do so at the full, open rate.

SECOND QUARTER: If you join AMA as a first time, new member from
April 1st through June 30th, you will pay the full, open rate. The
Following year, your renewal notice will reflect a 25% reduction in dues.

THIRD QUARTER: If you join AMA from July 1st through September
14th, you will pay the full, open rate. The Following year, your
renewal notice will reflect a 50% reduction in dues.

FOURTH QUARTER: If you join AMA from September 15th through
December 31st, you will pay the full open rate. You will receive
membership for the remainder of that year, plus membership for the
following year.

Thank you for your interest in joining the Academy of Model Aeronautics. If we can answer any
other questions for you concerning our organization, or membership in it, please call us at 1-800-
I-FLY-AMA (1-800-435-9262).

Sincerely,

AMA Membership Department

**A New Member is defined as a person who has never been a member or a person who has not been a member in the last 5 (five) calendar years.

Hope this helps answer your question.

OK and thanks.
I did not see anything about that on the site but it would not be the first time that I missed something in reading.
I filed my membership w/AMA and will join the local club.
I don't know how long it takes to get the AMA member number but I assume my local club will accept my dated receipt from AMA

They should accept the email.

It normally takes about 2 weeks but this is renewal season so bear with them

OK, I figured the local club would take the emailed receipt.
Not a big deal, I do have a plane ready to fly but I won't be flying much as I am headed to back surgery for a 42 year old Army injury pretty quick then some recovery time of course.
It's winter so it's as good a time to do it as any where I can more or less stay inside.
I just can't put this off any longer.

I've heard of winter. We have to put a jacket on when it reaches here for a day or two

It's up to the club really, but the bottom line is, when you have that receipt for payment, you're covered by the insurance. That, as a CD and club officer, would be enough for me.

We do get winter here in AZ.
I am at some 5200' or so and we get occasional snow too.
4 seasons here, unlike the hot desert floor down below.
