If that's your metric of win/lose, o/k. The case was a huge win for Pirker in almost every way. A free defense, and massive publicity for his company. The FAA went after one guy for a seemingly minor infraction (even the NTSB said so), and accepted a "fine" of 10% of the original amount. FAA=Fail.

That's usually how it works by several orders of magnitude.

With parking tickets and motor vehicle violations that's true. I don't believe the FAA writes tickets for $35 penalties. Considering the cost of the FAA fines I'd venture a guess a much higher percentage are contested than for motor vehicle violations.

Might be the case with "most", but certainly not with the instant case. All the legal research, multiple hearings, briefs, etc etc went well into 6 figures. Pirkers defense was no different. It would have probably bankrupted most, and it's not something typically covered by insurance either. If you want to call collecting a $1,100 fine a win for the FAA, so be it. Hundreds of thousands of dollars and countless manhours spent, to lose some rulings along the way, then get questioned by the NTSB over what they were doing.....please.

They write tickets and suspend license. I know of at least one pilot who paid his fine and waited till his license was reactivated. Costs big money to contest the FAA so I guess you are very wrong about that.

This guy is a Swiss citizen, Living in Hong Kong. What chance do U think he could have been deported to the USA by a communist government. Especially for a trivial so called crime that caused NO danger or damage what so ever. It's all about the FAA and it's Ego & belief that it is the all powerful (OZ). Remember the Old Guy behind the curtain?
Remember what caused this hullabaloo in the first place. It all started when the AMA went to congress and add Amendment #336 and how the FAA said they Interpreted that Amendment. It's still my contention that except for congress trying to tell the FAA what and what they could not do, The FAA would have gone after only the people that were operating, the only thing that was considered a DRONE (Quad)' Where they became a precived menace to maned aviation. PERIOD.
