And now my 'girlfriend' (she just doesn't know it yet) Kim Komando puts this video out for all to see:

http://videos.komando.com/watch/7192...-screen-shot-h

I have written her requesting she remove the link and sent her a copy of the AMA Safety Code highlighting item 2i

WE HAVE TO STOP THESE IRRESPONSIBLE MODELERS FROM HURTING US ALL!

Sounds like a typical flying field. Scale guys complain about foamy and 3D guys hovering. 3D guys complain about the warbird guys. Everyone complains about the pattern guys taking up the whole field....yada yada yada.......If you have a dedicated heli area, toss the Multi-rotor in with the helis.

So here we are full circle. Radio controlled aircraft are just that. It does not matter if it is a multi-rotor, a heli, or fixed wing. It is radio control, and just because someone decided to purchase a 3+ armed flying thing, it does not make it any different. There is a chance that person did not know anything about fixed wing, and may take an interest.

The bigotry and prejudice toward multi-rotors is ridiculous.

You have a choice here. Embrace them into your club and teach them the way of radio control.

Or

You can let them continue to fly at your local park or where ever they think is right and continue to cause problems. Problems for both them and the radio control hobby.

BTW, radio controlled Fixed wing that can land themselves are not too far from hitting your Local Hobby Shop. That will also attract fresh people that will require hand holding to teach them the ways of radio control. Would you run those guys off too?

You and I both know that when those hit the shelves people will be using streets as runways to fly....
Your assertion is seriously flawed. Show me empirical data to back up your assumption that these FPV pilots not following the AMA safety code were tun off of AMA fields, and then decided to break the rules because they were treated so poorly?

The AMA has embraced the FPV technology. We banned FPV and Autonomous flying at our club because everyone that showed up with them, acted like idiots, and did not follow the rules. We are not going to threaten the existence of our Gold leader club, because a new technology is being abused.

Our club, and most of them do not really on the AMA for their existence, but they provide us with insurance. I have felt all along that for those of you that are so PRO FPV/autonomous, create your own national insurance organization, and prove to the world you are responsible. I feel that the AMA may have threatened the whole organization by trying to lure in a group of scofflaws.

Just because the AMA has publicly embraced the Multi-Rotor pilots does not mean Local Clubs and flying sites have. BTW, I think you've missed my argument by 180 degrees..........

The majority of the multi-rotor crowd do not realize they are not being safe when they fly in they way they do. Now there is a small minority of multi-rotor pilots that are scofflaws, but you can't be prejudice against the group as a whole.

BTW, there is a "drone" insurance available. But it is for people that want to fly their aircraft for commercial purposes.

AMA members that have been for years and have now decided to fly these new technologies would be the majority I feel. I doubt highly that someone that got a full FPV quad from radio shack, or even the hobby store, ran right out to join the AMA.

I agree with you that we need to be vigilant and do all that we can to make sure everyone flys safe, follows the rules etc. But again, the nature of the technology is not geared toward the AMA's rules. It is too restrictive, and eliminates the excitement of these types of models.

I'll bet U don't even enforce the AMA or Club rules at your own field.... Proof When is the last time some one flew without doing a range check at the beginning of the day for each different plane ... That't breaking the rules when U don't let your fellow club members in your "CLICK" don't say anything when your buds break the rules.

It looks like this is about to improve - DJI are going to release updates so the No Fly Zones will reflect actual airspace.

Check the FAA website. You are correct, there are two zones, one with 30nm radius and another inside of that with a 15nm radius. For the purposes of model aircraft/UAS the results are a 60nm exclusion zone. I’m pretty sure the White house is within that inner zone if not at the center.

Not sure but I believe that only the inner circle restricts model aviation. The rest is limited to 400 foot altitude.

I believe this model airfield is inside the ADIZ.

The Nazi's were the National Socialist Party and thus socialists.

They had free health care to include free abortion (especially if the child had semetic heridity), unemployment, minimum wage, and outright welfare handouts. Some of this dissappered during the war as Hitler wanted every able bodied man to be fighting or working. Facism was a melding of right and leftest beliefs.

That field is just south west of Germantown well outside of zones A, B or C and the NOTAM - Washington DC Metropolitan Special Flight Rules Area states;

A. THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS ARE NOT AUTHORIZED WITHIN THE DC FRZ: FLIGHT TRAINING, AEROBATIC FLIGHT,PRACTICE INSTRUMENT APPROACHES, GLIDER OPERATIONS, PARACHUTE OPERATIONS, ULTRA LIGHT, HANG GLIDING, BALLOON OPERATIONS, TETHERED BALLOONS, AGRICULTURE/CROP DUSTING, ANIMAL POPULATION CONTROL FLIGHT OPERATIONS, BANNER TOWING OPERATIONS, MAINTENANCE TEST FLIGHTS, MODEL AIRCRAFT OPERATIONS, MODEL ROCKETRY, FLOAT PLANE OPERATIONS, UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS (UAS) AND AIRCRAFT/HELICOPTERS OPERATING FROM A SHIP OR PRIVATE/CORPORATE YACHT.

That's not a DJI problem. That is a GPS issue. Any one of the multi-rotors with GPS are capable of a "fly away" Especially when the user
does not follow instructions correctly and make sure their GPS is receiving the correct amount of satellite signals.

But you said that model aircraft are restricted inside the 60 NM diameter, the FRZ is only 30 NM diameter. I showed you a model field operating inside the 60 NM diameter.

Guys have you put any thought into that the club flying within the TFR may have some sort of waiver?

Of coerce he did but he was/is one of the IN CROWD he is one of them nothing is going to happen to him... it may have all been set up by the Secret Service ... What better time to start a conspiracy than when O'B is out of the country. Think about it. and ofcourse U knew he'd have to call from restrictions to be placed on aerial toys.

OMG, SERIOUSLY. I hope you don't believe that ...! Even if no formal charges are brought against him do you really think his superiors will look kindly on the unfavorable attention the agency he works for is getting out of this? In my opinion he will be lucky to keep his job and only get censured. I don't know where you work but most companies and gov. agencies that I'm aware of fire people for bad behavior even if it's outside the job.
