Default Petitioning AMA members for separation from drones

The recent requirement for ALL RC aircraft and drone operators to register with the FAA has caused quite a stir within our community. It is clear to me that if we have any hope at all of advocating for our hobby to remain as it has for many decades, we all need to put our minor differences of opinions aside and band together in order to have as large a voice as possible. I started an online petition at change.org to advocate for the distinct separation of traditional model aircraft and drones, which many believe have fundamentally changed our hobby (and its reputation to the general public) in the scant few years of their existence. The recent requirements to register with the FAA are just the beginning of many more restrictions to be added in the future. We MUST stand united to fight for the hobby we have all enjoyed for many years in order to continue to enjoy it in the future and to pass it along to our future generations.

Please follow the link and sign the petition .

I think you're a bit late to the punch bowl. The FAA has already made up its mind. Time to register your slow stick.

You should create a petition for the immediate resignation of Bob Brown as well.

I signed it and passed it along. The more that sign this will be a clear message to the EC that they made a huge mistake.

Thanks guys! Yes, it MAY be too late, but MAYBE NOT! In fact, I believe it is never too late to take action on something one believes in. Will it make a difference? Maybe, maybe not. Funny thing about that is you never know until you try.

I'm not sure where in my lifetime our culture shifted to labeling one a loser if an effort is not successful! I was raised to believe that one was a loser if one did not TRY, but now, ALL the kids get awards regardless.

Regards,

Astro

I filled out the petition and after I did I sent it to my club members and they are reporting to me that the petition is now appearing in French. When I go back to it I see that as well. Is anybody else seeing the same thing with the petition page being in French??

No, although I would love to see it in French: mine is still in English. I will check if a setting was mistakenly changed.

My original trip to the petition was from Terry Farmer's (Wylie Warbirds) post on Facebook to the petition. Now when I go back to his post on Facebook and click through to the petition it is still showing up in French as well. I wonder if it has something to do with when my club members reported that they couldn't get to the petition. I forgot to tell them that they would need to be on Facebook as I know that some of my club members do not belong to Facebook.

I've signed the petition and I'll just see what happens with my club members, hopefully some of them can see it as well.

Thanks for checking to see if you all are seeing it ok.

Signed, not sure if it will do any good. AMA has not listened to us yet.

Once again, this problem was initially caused by fixed wing pilots flying beyond line of sight many years ago. And there are many multirotor pilots who fly according to the AMA rules. This petition is attacking the wrong problem.

Configuration of aircraft means nothing here . Good Grief RG , we get it , you fly multirotors . I have no problem with your multirotors till you start hanging either a camera or a GPS on to it . Go fitting the same camera or GPS to a high wing monoplane and yes sir , I'll call that a drone too ! And I'll want it's use to be in an entirely separate classification of flight also.......

Have to agree with you there, FPV was happening before quads became popular, but the quads with cameras is what we are seeing in the news everyday. Guys in my club have bought them and once you get past the initial "thats cool" factor it's as boring as it can get. I'll be signing.

Don't blame the machine. Blame the IDIOT that is operating it in a unsafe area or manner! This is crazy to make us register or RC aircraft do to the ones that don't care about what they are doing!

AMEN..!
There are still too many folks who do not have a clear idea yet about what constitutes a Drone Aircraft versus a Traditional RC Aircraft.

Here's a link to find your "public servants" in DC if you wish to vent your frustration.
