Default Awful new AMA sUAS website

So the AMA publishes a news release on their website announcing a new sUAS website. Now, not only did the hyperlinks in their announcement not work (see note 1 below), even after I pointed it out to them using the "contact AMA" feature, they're still not right - they fixed one of them, but not both.

Regardless, I took a look at the site itself. Now, websites are organized much like newspapers, with most important info listed near top, and then logically left to right.

With this in mind, imagine you're a Dad and son who just got a drone and are trying to do the right thing. By some chance, you stumble across this page. Seeing the title, you might be tempted to think you found the answer. But I argue due to the terrible organization, that Dad and son will leave frustrated ... for the reasons I show below.

Now, I'm one of those who think the AMA should be more accountable for how they spend our dues. They are paying a PR firm that should know something about this, and they're paying web designers as well. So how is it this type of poor organization gets past these "professionals?" They knew or should have known about the whole Google thing, yet they chose to make this not mobile friendly. Why? Honestly, I think we deserve better for our money.

The floor is open...

No worse than the AMA web site itself. Seems to me that Aunt Beas third grade class could do better.

I wouldn't care except that they're using our membership dues to pay for this garbage work. AND we're paying the ED a salary that puts him in the top 1.5% of all incomes in Muncie, and he allows this crap to be produced.

Perhaps we should fire the AMA and hire The Donald. He knows everything and could easily correct this. LOL

Sorry, could not think of another reply, to another SCREW UP !

No..don't fire anyone. Let those that have allll the answers run for the office. I mean, after all it seems sooo easy to do right, some folks here have all the answers and know how everything should be done. And lets not forget that HUGE salary.

Except they haven't lifted a finger to do anything other than complain here. Nothing.

All empty complaints after the fact, clinging to the past. What wasted effort and energy.

This country is now full of a bunch of complaining protestors. I support the AMA and their efforts. You should too.

When is the last time you saw a group of people show up to support anything.

Why don't you ask to work at the AMA and try to fix whatever it is you think the organization is doing wrong.

Sad, just sad.

So you're a fan of paying people to do jobs they aren't doing? Paying professional PR people yet seeing this garbage as a product? Paying web people that can't ensure what they post actually works?

As for offering help, I have done that more than once over the last couple years. As recently as two days ago. And they've refused ... telling me "we have fairly smart people" running the organization.

If this is an example of "fairly smart," I'd sure hate to see what NOT "fairly smart" looks like!

Well, you asked for transparency and you're getting plenty of it. Good!

Yeah, and what we're seeing is a lot of our dues being used for mediocrity.

SunDevilPilot......I've seen your suggestion offered many times at this forum but......

Could you go into greater detail, step by step, how you quit your job, your pension, move to Muncie and then commandeer a decision making position at AMA HQ...?

hey pig, just remember this.
(somewhat paraphrased)

those who can, do,
those who can not, find a CBO to employ them.

I have no interest in an argument. If you are critical of the AMA and think they are doing you a disservice then quit. Remember, the AMA has always been there to promote model aviation. A battle with the Federal Government was likely not an original goal in their mission statement. I can assure you, it is now.

I am glad for any and all the effort they do on my behalf.

I can see from the tone of several of you this thanks is not mutual. That is too bad because it is all I have protecting a hobby I enjoy.

Well, you might be onto something here. We can build a bigger, taller, longer and better website an tell Trump to have the Mexicans pay for it!

The truth of the matter is that websites are all over the place. It depends of 2 things. The company's vision (here the AMA) and their needs (purpose of the webpage), and the level of quality and experience of the creator of the page. And believe me, each company that creates webpages is different. Some are bad, some good, some outstanding...
Also, the USEFUL input of the members always helps improve things.

But remember, you CANNOT please everybody. There are people that spend 100% of their time in attack mode against the organization (professional organization, commercial organization or special interests organization), so you know what their comment will be... In other words, you know what to expect from some people.

A battle with the Federal Government was likely not an original goal in their mission statement, BUT THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SUPPORT AN ACTIVITY THAT WILL INEVITABLY CAUSE RESTRICTIVE LEGISLATION. I can assure you, IF THERE EVER WAS A TIME TO SOUND OFF AND VOICE YOUR DISPLEASURE, it is now.

I am glad for any and all the effort they do on my behalf. TOO BAD THAT 100% OF THEIR EFFORTS HAVE NOT BEEN ON MY BEHALF, BUT FOCUSED ON THEIR COMMERCIAL EFFORTS.

I find your smear campaign on AMA and Drones repulsive!

I wonder what is wrong with Drones and what is "awful" with the AMA's UAS Website?

The Drones are one of the greatest invention of mankind, and they are here to stay!

This is the future of RC. The Drone events now are world wide, and the prize money is in millions of dollars.

So, why should AMA stay out of this?

AMA can not survive on measly seventy dollar membership dues.

I'll assume you are correct about that. What do you think about their viability when membership dues are fifteen dollars?

That's like saying a 350 pound man can't survive on 1500 calories.
Wanna bet...?

.

Greatest invention of mankind? Wow.
Just how long will the "millions of dollars" in prize money last with no spectators? Show me one event were there is a spectator count. I keep seeing sentences like " biggest crowd ever" and such but never any numbers. Take a look in the magazines pictures of a couple of dozen guys with goggles on and nobody else. Everyones hitching the horse to this and it ani't happening.
