Since the only theft claims that would be allowed to be submitted , would be by fellow AMA members who are covered under the AMA insurance , are you saying you don't trust a high number of your fellow AMA members ? That's how the statement you made sure looks from here . I would personally trust that my fellow AMA members , having many multiple thousands of dollars spent on the hobby , would not stoop so low as to scam $1K from an organization they have supported for years , even if it was "easy pickings" ......
So yes, there are member of the AMA that would take advantage. I have to add, I once had the impression that most whom are in the hobby of model aviation were of higher stature in society. In most cases that is true, but it isn't the rule anymore.

I was young and naive at one time too. I've learned my lesson twice, once at the AMA Expo and several times managing a hobby shop. At the hobby shop people constantly would rip off the store for Dubro and Great Planes hardware. It was bad enough to move all dubro and GP hardware behind the counter to prevent the thefts. At the AMA Expo, I had batteries on display that I failed to put in a case or affix to the table that disappeared. I was of the mind set that people at the AMA expo would not rip off the vendors.

Oh yes , it's an unfortunate fact of life that there will be a small percentage of dishonest people in all endeavors , and that small fraction of criminal activity shouldn't be used to brush a wider group of people , as the post I quoted alludes to . "Can you imagine the number" sure sounds like an accusation of far more people than the normally encountered fractional criminal element , as if many multiples of people would take advantage . He can think what he wants about his fellow AMA members but in my years in the hobby , having seen very few dishonest people among the thousands of honest people I've met , I'd say his accusation of a large amount of my fellow AMA members is baseless at least and inflammatory at worst .

I would think that of all people , only a small fraction are dishonest . And that small fraction of dishonest people are spread out through life equally , so that no one group of any people can claim to be "more honest" than any other group .
Makes perfect sense. I can see where the Bandidos and Cossacks are just as honest as Doctors Without Borders.
Now of course we have at least one poster here who thinks large amounts of AMA members are dishonest and I really hope that is a view he and only he believes in ......

That would be more level headed thinking, but society and experiences dictate differently. It shows in peoples actions in government, where they live and even who they associate with. Sometimes it only takes one time to be burned, sometimes more to take preventative measures for protection.
