Thanks Dudley, I will pay & stay in the area you want me too. I will only be able to stay till about 1 PM. My wife has plans I should do with her. Best Regards, John

Well I went to the Py[on Race, paid at the entrance. It was a real good race for sure. It was done in a real pro-like manner. I stayed right by my car for a place to set & rest between heats. The president of the club came to talk about what I should do & expect. He was nice, but firm in his talk. He said that me being a snow-bird should become a asscioate member & I asked how much it would cost for a snow-bird. He said he would find out & let me know. I did not know there was 2 types of members It was a real calm day with just the right temp.......Great day for the race !

Best regards, John

Most likely their club field/area is off limits to non members when there is no public event going on.

They must be on private property then.

A few years back I was elected president of my club to deal with what was at the time, a very poor relationship with our field's landowner. For some unknown reason, many members of our club could not follow one simple rule: "when driving your car from the road to the field, stay on the driveway, DO NOT drive on the grass." It became such an issue with the land owner that we nearly lost our field.

Right about the point where we were starting to get back into the landowner's good graces we had two out of town AMA members come to the field, drive off the driveway to go around a puddle and get stuck up to their frame in the grass. We were there when one of the guys did it. We helped him out, did everything possible to fix the ruts and then pleaded for mercy with the landowner.

The second guy called me the week before he came to Rhode Island and I told him he was welcome to meet me or another member at the field, but under no circumstances was he allowed to go to the field by himself. Can you see where this is going? He decided to say screw you, he went to the field three times with no one officially there to greet him, he got stuck, spun his wheels until he was buried, walked to the land owners house, knocked on his door, told him he was not a member and asked if he would use one of his tractors to pull him out. We nearly lost the field.

After that we had the AMA take us off any list of fields that welcomed guests. My point is, if you aren't in the club, or better yet, one of the club officers, you have no idea what any particular club's situation is, and you have no right to fly there, end of story.

Being on public land can be just as perilous as private land can be. Several years ago, I was at a boat race at a local county park lake. After the racing was completed and trophies handed out, the racers were in the process of taking down everything and getting ready to go. A visitor from another area, at this point, decided he wanted something to drink. Since he had a motor home, he went in and grabbed a six pack of cold BEER. He then comes out of the motor home, pops the top of one and proceeds to hand the rest of the beer to others. This might not have been an issue, EXCEPT FOR THE FACT HE DID SO RIGHT IN FRONT OF A PARK RANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The club had to do some serious sweet talking to the parks department to be able to keep using the lake as a race site. Because of that incident, ALL BOATING CLUBS were on what amounted to probation at all county parks for the next several years, during which they had to prove to the county that they could be trusted all over again

There are always two sides to the story. "RIGHT" I have been a member for two years I have never met a friendlier bunch of guys and gals.. We all strongly welcome anyone who walks up and is interested in R/C airplanes. I have seen that courtesy extended many, many times myself. You can in fact come as guest , and fly under supervision of an active member..We don't enjoy people who would come and take advantage of the guest privileges continuously with out being a member. We all contribute to helping with maintenance, insurance and events we sponsor. We have many members who have come from other clubs because the camaraderie at HAM is so great. We welcome all members. who want to participate young and old alike. I have never seen anyone run off.

Thanks For Reading This

Looks like in the end, this issue was resolved and laundry aired out. Sometimes that what is takes, both side having to air out dirty laundry and find a happy median.

First thought I would say you should probably avoid that club/site. But if you must, I do hope you approach them with hat in hand. And you start out by apologizing for any misunderstandings. Then ask if "We" can start over. And for the first visit, leave the planes at home and just be a spectator.

If you can't do that, then you might want to simply avoid that club/site.

Sounds like Captinjohn should take an interest in an area of the hobby that doesn’t require a club membership for participation. Park flyers, gliders, small helicopters, drones, monster trucks, or boats.

For some reason he seems to have a talent for annoying people.

some people simply are weak in "social skills" area. they try to convey the importance of joining a AMA sponsored club and it comes out sounding like they are "AMA snobby". and sometimes, potential members are somewhat timid and apprehensive because they don't have the information they need or want and don't know how to obtain it. I've been in several clubs of many types for many different activities and I have found that every club has members that are better at one thing or another than other members. I have always tried to invite people to attend local club meetings as part of an introduction to the activity. there,.... at a meeting.... there will usually be someone who has a good handle on the " meet and greet " part of club membership and the guys attending the meetings are usually the core enthusiasts and are usually made up of this group of "specialists". I've also found that the less of an issue made about club dues and membership fees, the easier it is to recruit new members. most people realize that joining a club will entail paying some dues and membership fees going in and will eventually ask about them soon enough. we all know that club finances are certainly important,.....but, too much talk too soon about these points makes it sound like the club is only interested in the financial aspect of new membership and that is just about the best way there is, to chase prospective members away. most successful clubs have one or two people who are good at dealing with these issues and prospective new members. it is in your club's best interest to direct potential new members towards these people and let them do what they do best.

Yep , when it comes to flying clubs ya got the same "Rights" as everyone else does ; you pay your dues , fly your circles in the pattern like everyone else , and if ya don't like the way things are run your two choices are to get involved and try to make meaningful change , or you STFU and live within the status quo . And no , coming to the internet and kvetching about how a club won't let you freeload really AIN'T an option becoming of any "Captain" , the self entitled buck stops here !

Another (early) sign of desperation, yet no major changes on how they operate.
