AMA Correspondence Needs Revision!
I have a complaint about the event sanctioning process. We sent our sanction in several months ago (first part of the year). When we realized the event hadn't shown up in Model Aviation we began to worry. Our club contest director called the District 8 contest director to inquire about our event to see if everything was in place and to ask why it wasn't in the magazine yet. Well, he said he never received it. Did the USPS lose it? Maybe. Did the District contest coordinator lose it? Maybe. Who knows? All we know is it is only two months until our fly-in and it's not going to make it in the magazine event calendar in time. That was a month and a half ago.
Where did the process go wrong? Does the AMA correspond back with a club who submits an event sanction saying "Yeah, we received your sanction. Everything looks good." or does the club just have to wait and see it come out in the magazine?
If AMA maybe had an online sanction submittal form, or the District had it on their site, we would know for sure they received it. Otherwise, next time we send one in, you can guarantee it will be by registered mail with a return receipt. I know we should have done that the first time, but this will be the first time in 22 years this has happened to us.
Now about the event.
On October 11-12, 2003 we will be hosting our 22nd Annual Fly-In and Swap Meet in San Angelo, TX. It is a Class C event and is open to all types of planes, jets, helicopters, and even flying lawnmowers if you have one. This is one, if not the biggest Fly-Ins West of Weatherford in District 8. No landing fee. Food, drinks, $50 pilots prize each day, and over $500 worth of raffle prizes. Bring your RV and set up camp if you like. Or stay at the LaQuinta and mention you are here for the Angelo R/C Fly-In and receive a special rate!
Write-in candidate Jim Branaum AMA #1428 will be in attendance to answer any and all questions regarding his candidacy and upcoming election.
So load up your R/C Wagon and head out here! It is only 4 hours from Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Lubbock! For a map, visit our website.
See y'all here!
