Must I wait 'till 1/05 to sign up?
I read on the AMA websight...
"Insurance coverage is effective on the date of receipt at AMA Headquarters of a properly completed application and correct dues payment. Membership ends each year on December 31, regardless of the date a member application is received."
My 3 month membership is up. I need to fly Sunday. Please tell me the websight simply does not list a cut off date and is just poorley written.

If you sign up now, it should be good through 2005. Usually anyone signing up after Oct 1 is good for the following year. Since you had the 3 month membership, I don't know how that works.

It WILL be good through 2005. Anytime in the last quarter of the year gives you through the next year.

.pdf document #912 on the AMA site; dues policy. If it was an introductry membership, different rules apply; call headquarters at the number below.
*******************
WHAT: Dues policy for new, first time, OPEN full category members.
WHY: To clarify the length of time your membership is valid, according to the
date of your dues payment. This is necessary since AMA membership
works on a calendar year basis starting January 1st, rather than the date of
your dues payment.
HOW: FIRST QUARTER: If you join AMA as a first time, new member from
January 1st through March 31st, you will do so at the full, open rate.
SECOND QUARTER: If you join AMA as a first time, new member from
April 1st through June 30th, you will pay the full, open rate. The
Following year, your renewal notice will reflect a 25% reduction in dues.
THIRD QUARTER: If you join AMA from July 1st through September
30th, you will pay the full, open rate. The Following year, your
renewal notice will reflect a 50% reduction in dues.
FOURTH QUARTER: If you join AMA from October 1st through
December 31st, you will pay the full open rate. You will receive
membership for the remainder of that year, plus membership for the
following year.
Thank you for your interest in joining the Academy of Model Aeronautics. If we can answer any
other questions for you concerning our organization, or membership in it, please call us at 1-800-
I-FLY-AMA (1-800-435-9262).

Hi Geistware
Nothing you said was wrong. It may not have gone far enough, though. If he actually has a 3 month membership, it is probably an intro membership and needs to be converted ASAP. If he joined before October, he should have recieved a prorated renewal already.
If, as you suggest, he joined as a full member, after October 1, he is probably good to go and only needs to look at his card and see that it expires in 2005 and not 2004, even though it is a 2004 card.
