Default Video CD from AMA that has to be returned !!!

Do we actually have to return the "Volume 1" video DVD that came in the mail from AMA representation or pay $9 to the AMA ?
Where in the membership rules does it suggest that AMA can force you to return something or pay for it ?
Does the next "volume 2" come unsolicited as well and require returning also ?
For the record I did not receive a DVD yet one but my buddy did..........
What a marketing disaster IMHO

This has already been discussed, you may want to read that thread.

In response to the title of this thread, D. Brown's letter that came with my DVD states:

"Because you didn't ask for this special DVD, you don't have to participate or send it back and you could consider it a free gift, but returning it will give another member the same opportunity!"

Helps to READ the literature that comes with the package. Marketing disaster, as someone put it? What's such a disaster about getting FREE STUFF in the mail? If you are sent unsolicited merchandise you are not obligated to return it, pay for it, or otherwise acknowledge it!

I love it. B&M about how the AMA isn't doing anything to supplement the dues income and stave off another dues increase, then B&M when they do! No matter what the AMA does, it's WRONG! Unbelievable.

My mistake on jumping to conclusions from a friends verbal information.
Guess I will ask my friend for the documenataion and dvd if he wants me to help in the future.
Thanks to all for clearing it up.
Now Happy AMA member waiting for my DVD to come in the mail.

Gbcross, you may be in for a long wait. The letter also implies that not everyone gets a DVD:

"By previewing this first exclusive DVD, you and fellow selected AMA members will see..."

Permission granted for you to become a "Pi**ed off ama member" again.

February,2005-Got my dvd-nice work, good info-most of it already known by me, but it can be passed on to others. I have never measured carbureter openings, though I will not only send them payment, I look forward to the next offering. When my reflexes get too slow, and my fingers get too arthritic,I will still be able to watch these in my room at the nursing home!

Can't read what I didn't open. As soon as I saw it had a return label, I stuck it on and put it in the 'out' box. If AMA, or anybody else wants to send me something, free or otherwise, don't presume to assume that I want it. They can advertise it in the mag, and if I want it, I'll ask for it, TYVM; I'll even pay for it. Mass mailers are a PITA, and AMA can spend its time and our money in much better ways.

No one is obligated to read the entire text of any unsolicited crap that comes in the mail.

Yeah, but if you're so bothered by it, then you owe it to your peace of mind and sanity to read the note that came with the DVD.

For crying out loud people, we all get stuff like this EVERY DAY from companies... Unsolicited mail asking for money. What is so new and upsetting about this one?

Because it comes from somebody we have already sent money to in the form of our dues. I don't really want to lump AMA with all the other junk mailers we have to contend with. There comes a time when you finally get tired of a thing, and just because everybody deals with it every day (junk mail, or unsolicited mail [same thing in my book]) doesn't make it acceptable. If you don't mind it so much, leave your address and everyone who doesn't want theirs can forward it to you.
