2006 Card Received - Thin?
Got my 2006 card yesterday. I haven't run a micrometer on it but it sure feels a lot thinner than last years card. I'm hard on any card in my wallet, hope this card lasts the year. [big grin]

Back in the old days, the cards were laminated from three layers of Equadorian balsa, with silk and nitrate in between. They were beautiful, and they only cost a nickel! Same as a four-course steak dinner! And we all took autogyros to work everyday. Ah, those were the good old days.

My dad would wake us up half an hour before we went to sleep, kill us, and dance on our graves...did we complain? NO. The kids today have it too easy.
Ah, I remember the AMA cards in the GOOD OLD DAYS. They were at least a foot thick. And juicy. Handmade. Calligraphy. Written in the blood of a dodo. That's how they did things back then. Not these cheap Chinese-made cards they have nowadays.

And signed by President Grover Cleveland. Now THERE was a President with PENMANSHIP.
I always looked forward to the Western Union man in his uniform on his little Cushman scooter delivering it each year. Aunt Bea would invite him in for a slice of her homemade apple pie, and a glass of fresh milk. Milk tasted like MILK back then, we would keep the cow right there in the living room. Try that with one of the Soy Cows they have today.

Card? Like in made of paper? Gee, I was anticipating them to just download a halographic image by satalite to my cell phone, and then I could just hit the # key to present it to the CD at the field.
Better yet, why don't they just upload my AMA number to the satalite and have it downloaded into the ID chip that is implanted in my left buttock, then all the CD has to do is wave a laser wand across my butt to see if I'm current, what channels I use, what places I've been, what I ate for lunch three days ago, where I buy my underwear, and where I lived for the past 37 years.
Who needs a card these days?
Scott

I had one of those from 1959 to 1969. Wish I had kept it!

Now this thread is the reason that I visit the AMA Discussion part of RC Universe.
By the way, it was a Cushman Eagle.

An AMA Card? Or a Cushman Eagle?

For some strange reason I keep and have kept all my AMA cards for 20+ years.....I'll go through them and see if they really have been getting thinner - or IF they were signed by Grover
