LETS JUST JABBER ABOUT WHATEVER AMA TOPIC IS ON OUR MIND
Every post always strays way off topic. So I decided to start a thread with no topic and see how many twist and turns it takes before it fizzles out. According to RCU rules the discussion still needs to pertain to AMA though. So this will be the one forum where nobody can complain that you went way off topic!LOL I will start this thread off with a question. Why is AMA Membership $58 and not $60?

Answer: because a bag of chips is $.99 instead of a dollar. Were you trying to start something with that question? err...I guess you were...sorry

Yes I was trying to start something!LOL Actually I have wondered how high membership fees could go before you started to see a big decrease in Membership, or how low Mmebership fees would have to go to have a sizable gain in Memebership? I am just curious to what the magic number would be that would give the AMA the largest amount of Members, and yet keep the AMA in the best financial shape? Would they do better if fees went up or down?

Since we are seeing a consistent decrease of membership over the last several years, I would "suspect" that raising the rates any higher would increase the percentage of membership loss. Of course don't take my word for it, this is stuff that I just read in books and apply to way I run a business, I'm not sure about how others would do it.

I run a small business as well, and financial shape has everything to do with it. You can label the AMA anyway you like in regards to what type of business it is, but I believe it still has maintain financial stabillity. My business model works like this. I get every dime out of you that I possibly can without losing the job to the competition. If I had no competition like the AMA I would be having weekly cocktails with Bill Gates! Competition drives my prices down to where I have to settle for a bottle of beer once a week while mowing my own grass.

It's 58 instead of 60 because the State Of Indiana's Accounting Board uses base six. It's an old tradition going back to the days of slavery.
Now you know.
Can I just add something?
E-ticket, blah blah blah, e-ticket, blah blah blah...

E-ticket's going to cure your sciatica and make your hair grow back, blah blah blah, there are going to be thirty-freaking-two million new AMA members, there will be a WAITING LIST to join AMA, blah blah blah...

The e-ticket really is a no win idea for the AMA in my opinion, and I will be glad when the subject is forgotten. Some e-fliers will join the AMA at the current $58 rate, and those are the ones that will probally stick with the hobby for quite awhile. The ones who refuse to join now at $58 will not continually join for $28 either! They might once, and then will move on to other things. The ones that need the break in cost are the young kids, and they currently get that break. So I think the system is set how it should be as far as membership fees are concerned.

Most park flyers are LIBERALS. If we do the E-ticket, we might as well just turn the AMA over to the liberals right now.

since the point of this is to have no subject how about we take a hard right. I'm sick of the damn e-ticket subject
What does the AMA actually do to help with acquiring fields. Both of the clubs I belong to need a field to call their own or at least have adequate access to and the AMA pretty much leave it up to us with the, gee let us know you got a field, to make us look good

I think if the AMA insurance was primary they would attract more members especially
parkflyers. I would also suggest offering different amounts of coverage for small and
large planes.

It doesn't matter where it came from, since he's from NYC, his comments are accurate just by default. He didn't mean to confuse you by giving a math and history lesson in the same sentence, it just sort of worked out that way.

Stickbuilder, your problem is you are reading biased mainstream history books. You need to open your mind to the works of Erich Von Daniken.
Ira D, what a great idea! Why don't you write it down and send it in to Muncie!

RE: LETS JUST JABBER ABOUT WHATEVER AMA TOPIC IS ON OUR MIND
This is the craziest thread I've ever seen.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif] It's like seeing people vomit in a restaurant or a train wreck. You don't wanna look, but you gotta.
Ok, here's another question. What do I get for my sixty...oops, fifty-eight bucks? I don't like magazines, so a newsletter with the option to recieve via email would be plenty for me. I don't compete or think the AMA should finance competitions. I don't intend on EVER going to Muncie, so will never use the field there. Heck, I don't think they ought to own all that property. It's wasteful. So, aside from the insurance, what does the AMA offer me, the average paying member? I know, the ability to join a club, dental, etc. That's not what I'm talking about. I don't mind being a member and the fifty-eight bucks ain't killing me. I'm just curious what the AMA is doing to retain ME?
The insurance and rag don't cover half the cost of membership, what's the rest going to?

Because it's a club requirement. That could change and so would my membership status. It's about value for my dollar.

Is there any logical reason they put the AMA core properties in Muncie, rather than a place that has weather that doesnt suck for months? It's like putting a rowing club in New Mexico, or NRA Headquarters in San Fransico... what were they thinking?
We should raise it to $60 to buy them boys plane tickets to San Diego (claimed nations best weather), or someplace with year round flying, and move the whole enchilada there.

Question, is this the only organization you belong too or something? If you read the mission statement of the AMA it will be actually hard to find the word insurance and magazine, you have to hunt for it.
So in a nutshell you SHOULD have joined the AMA to support the AMA's mission, then thought about yourself second. Or better yet, not joined at all!!!! This way we don't have to hear how much the AMA has to spend directly on you to keep you happy.

BTW, I also belong to the NRA. You already knew that. I belong to that organization because I believe in the cause. I send them money for the work they do. I belong to the AMA because I have to. If the AMA disappeared tomorrow, we'd have to find another field, but I'd still be flying model airplanes.

But you still have not given a practical cost cutting example for one thing.
Do you know how to even read a P&L? It's more then just big numbers you know.
