Let's get a betting pool going to see what they are referring to as "extreme".
c. Discussion – Safety ramifications of seemingly escalating; “Extreme” modeling mindset and activity .... R. Hanson
"On June 15-17 the 6th Annual International Extreme Flight Championships will be held at the AMA National Flying Site in Muncie Indiana. This site will bring the competition to a new level for both spectators and competitors alike."
'bring the competition to a new level' = 'escalating' ?????
How 'bout a betting pool as to whether this portends another 'do as we say not as we do' round of rule making.

I wasn't aware that it's the AMA's job to micromanage flying styles. For cryin' out loud, does anybody there want to put the brakes on stupidity? This could turn into another Rule 9 fiasco. (which is probably what Abel was inferring)

Where do you see any attempt to supress this trend? AMA ran an extreme flying event! There are articles in MA about it.
Safety is one of the AMA's primary interests. They examine situations and try to advise the membership of possible hazards and how to address them in order to enable flying, not to supress it. This is, in no way, micro managing flying fields. Flying fields are, and have always been under control of the local membership. However some good advice is always a good thing.
Would you not agree?

The problem with bigger and more powerfull is that there can be no restraints placed on,
" bigger-- more powerfull -- or progress."
If you do, none of the 3 items can get increased.
Is that cutting to the bottom line to brutally ?
