You never heard of a 2X10 prop on a Magnum .52, must be low throttle at only 8310 rpm?

Tachometer is to close to where the prop is supposedly turning at 8310 rpm. Unless it is only a 2"prop.

The LCD readout on the tach is too small for your average AMA elder to read. See Red's post above.
I suppose the guy holding it is reaching around the prop to position it where the camera can see it. I guess that makes MA columnists a bit like war correspondents. Think about the story first, then about being in harm's way.

No prop, only hub or is the picture doctored to make it look like a spinning prop.

Heck....I give-up...only thing I see is a guy pulling a wire attached to throttle (not tuning the engine) and he has clean finger nails, and the guy holding the tack bites his nails...so not the same dude? Seems there is some bluring around the hub, not sure??? So tell us what is wrong???

The hands, especially the tach hand, look like they've been inset to the picture of the engine on the test stand. Note the focus and edge lines on the stand vs on the hands.

I'll also take issue with the impression it gives that the tester is reaching around the prop to hold the tach while operating the throttle rod at the same time.

this is summer right? so unless where you live under water, who gives **** about a picture in model aviation? are you guys rc pilots or a bunch of keyboard jockeys? spend less time debating the what no gives a crap about and get your ass out and fly - or do something.

Give him slack, Bud - he's posting from SE Smogsville. On a clear day, you must be somewhere else.

Been flying today already. Looks to me like there are two right hands in the picture. That's the sort of thing that can happen if you violate safety rules.

I see it all the time....both pictures in magazines, videos on websites or at fly-ins. Guys reaching over props, standing or kneeling in front of props as they jockey the throttle and tune, etc. I cant believe how many guys I watch standing in front of BIG gassers while they run up their engines. Call me paranoid or even worse, but it just seems like common sense to get behind immediately after starting any engine.

Why is everyone assuming that there's only one person's hands in the picture? Looks to me that: a) there are two people involved, and that: b) due to using a long camera lens there is 'foreshortening' of the photo (as one gets with a telephoto lens) making the hand look closer to the prop than is actually the case. In any event, it looks fine to me, including that the tach is about the right distance from the spinning prop.
