Default Is $2mil out $1mil back a "profit"?

We all see MA spending & recovering money,
to the tune of $2mil spent and $1mil back
with the details listed in the financial report (& in CFO pages of MA) as
MA Direct Cost, MA Ad Revenue, and MA Subscription revenue.

But there is a guy here (not naming anyone particular) that claims MA is profitable.

His theory is that we have to add <about $2mil> MA revenue
from the MEMBER SUBSCRIPTION $18 as alluded to in the grey text at the back of MA.

So, is AMA getting a profit from MA?
If his theory is sound, then AMA sends $2mil to MA for 'member subscription'
MA receives that and lists it with its other revenues to the sum of $3mil MA revenue
while maintaining the $2mil MA Direct Costs, resulting in $1mil not spent.
And that $1mil returned by MA to AMA is what this guy is claiming to be "MA profit".

If you were AMA's checking account,
and you send $2mil from AMA to MA (GreyText $18 "member subscriptions"),
to get back $1mil from MA,
would you have profited?

If you owned MA,
and you sent them $2mil a year for 'member subscriptions'
while they sent you the unspent $1mil back,
would YOU be "profiting" by owning it... would your accountant agree?

<edit append>
Lets not squabble over IF ama should have MA
or how well MA is being run,
but just a simple Yes/No as to we should consider
-$2mil +$1mil AMA/MA relationship with the term "PROFIT"

Oh, to head off any complaints about 'AMA gets a Magazine for that money',

When I buy $1 soup on sale for $.75 Off When You Buy 3,
that .75 is not profit for me, that is Spending... perhaps Efficient Spending, but spending none the less.
... my wallet is lighter than when I started = not profit

It's not a "theory" nor "alluded to". It is a published, public, fact. It also makes your "theory" false as facts often do. You are basing your theories and arguments on false premises again.

Something comes to mind about not seeing the forest for the trees. In this case I would offer that you clear the tree bark from your hair and eyes.

Published?

Please cite the 2005 amount of this published number.

Fact?
Please explain how AMA is sending $18 to MA from each $15 Youth with MA dues.
The fact is the GreyText $18 doesnt say OPEN, it says from memberships that include MA

PS:
Robo, you failed to vote that you consider what you tell us is profit, is profit.
I see still ZERO votes for calling it profit, after you posted

Sorry, you'll have to seek your daily dose of RA from someone else.

As for the poll, well, refer to the above.

KE, the fact of the matter is that you and several others who don't like MA, how it's run, it's content, etc. drag this back out every once in a while to have something to bash on for a while when there is nothing else convenient to bash.

It's also a fact that you can't really draw a valid opinion about the profitability or lack thereof of MA without considering that some amount of your annual dues is in effect a paid subscription fee that supports the magazine. Just like the subscription fee that I pay to "FlyRC" or to "MAN". Without those fees neither publication would be profitable and be able to survive. My subscription to "FlyRC" costs me $28 a year, and it's not as good a magazine as is MA. Whatever small portion of my annual AMA dues goes towards support of MA is fine with me. It's a bargain at the price, whether it's $5, $10 or .......heaven forbid...........$18.

Why is it that anyone who wants to post another endless rant about MA always discounts that some of our dues goes to support the magazine and then claim it's a money loser? IMO it's just one of the overall services that AMA provides me as a member, just like insurance. And compared to the cost of the competition, whatever portion of my dues goes to support the magazine is less than what it costs me for comparable commercial publications.

This subject has been discussed adnausem here on RCU in more than just a few threads. I see no reason to start yet ANOTHER thread to rehash old material. I'm locking this thread.
