RE: AMA Convention
I'll be there all day Friday and Saturday, and part of Sunday. Look for me in the AMA District X booth or roaming around with a glazed look on my face!!

It would be nice if the AMA cares about those here in other states.

We once had a regular convention here, every two years maybe...can't remeber for sure, in the Dallas area...somehow it didn't seem to get as much push from AMA but I could be wrong...eventually ran out of gas I guess...It seemed you really had to keep your ear to the ground to ensure you didn't miss it. IRCC the entrance fees were the same for everyone, AMA or not...I thought it was a great way to promote our hobby...don't know exactly why it ended...

I enjoyed the first two. The program showed promise.
OTOH, had you been to that last one, you would have no doubt why the program folded. It certainly never met any"....well-thought-out," criteria, however, IMO, it set new highs for the "poorly executed drive" portion.
I felt very badly for the few exhibitors that did show up. [&o]

It was Sandy Frank's show, not AMA's.

RE: AMA Convention
About 12 years ago, we had a state convention here. Bob Underwood and Dave Brown came out to play. When DB was making his intro, it almost seemed like he had had one too many martinis for lunch, and on top of that, the zipper on his pants was down. It was real hard to concentrate on what he was talking about...we fought the giggles for over an hour.
Thankfully, someone got him aside after we had a break and told him the barn door was open. We were glad the horse didn't get out!

I have been going to the show since the middle 1970's when it was moreover free, by Bill Northrop, held in Pasadena, and got to see both vendors. The second half of the main floor was for demonstrations and to show off. Now, event is even closer to home, but for past couple of years have seen too many unlabeled tables at some hole that could have been occupied by a vendor. Doubt I will attend future events, as the vendors are fewer now, and aimed only one direction. That of the almighty dollar. Won't be much longer and will be back to small-time original concept.
My thought is that the AMA bumbled the arrangement years ago, and did nothing to encourage the newbie, small single item shop, or little guy. They aimed straight for the BIG ticket vendors. Remember, work on the big ticket vendors was less time consuming and easier, and we all knew what they held. Do not talk to anyone, jsut take their reservation for next year, receive a chegue in the mail and they are in then. Expect the big new splashy stuff out front for everyone to see.
I attend the local city Council and planning commission meetings, and they have same issues. "Why, all we need is ONE big tax base store here". Same saying as Lucy used to say in comic strip Peanuts, for all she needed as one purchase at $100 to make her day come out ahead. Forget the little guy, lets put all our efforts in that direction now.
Well, that takes work, and you are not going to get any from me then.

Well, at least they don't hold it in Muncie!

Don't fix the problem, only more money can fix that.

RE: AMA Convention
Visited on Friday. A higher than expected amount of empty booths but it could have filled in better on Saturday. No swap on Friday so I couldn't comment on that. Certain vendors were doing good business such as Banana Hobby, Nitro Planes, Maxford, Cermark, Hobby People etc. Plenty of clubs and Bill Hemple's HUGE models. Quite a few jets, some absolutely huge as well. Here are a few pictures.
