Safe and Sane

Hey, Horrace, this is the type of thing I might or might not pass along. It looks like an interesting effort to draw the membership into thinking about safety.

Subject: SANE AWARD

Hello, ALL ,

We are drafting up something NEW in AMA District VIII which is similar to the

District 8 DIRTY DOZEN AWARD....

(see: http://www.ama-dist-8.org/DirtyDozen/index.html )

it will be called the

"SANE AWARD..."

(Safe Aeromodeling is No Accident !) ( Safe and SANE Aeromodeling !!)

It will be given out to any member within AMA District 8 who significantly improves

SAFETY IN AEROMODELING...

This is open to all areas and dimensions of aeromodeling...

It can be at the club level, the individual level or in the form of a submitted HINT...

anything that WORKS and is able of replication is fair game...

It is open to CLUB SAFETY COORDINATORS primarily but will be available to all others who

significantly improve Aeromodeling SAFETY in any way !!!

For further information or
If you would like to be part of this SAFETY RECOGNITION program.....
please contact me at the below email address...

Best regards.

RE: Safe and Sane

the most dangerous part of aeromodeling is the drive to the flying site.....too much saftey can hamper the fun and excitement ... if ya want a super safe hobby, take up crocheting....cause knitting needles are maybe too sharp, lol

There are always un-recognized people in the hobby that could use some recognition for what they do. They will also be the last to tell you so.

You are so right we are safty crazy which begins to take the enjoyment out of the hobbyand the most dangerous part is getting to the field.I have always wondered how much the AMA pays out in claims and how much is taken in for policys

I know a dozen people hurt over the last 10 years including spectators and many close calls. If the drive in is safer, I gues there is no reason to be conciencious about safety at the R/C field.

No one is implying that we should not be careful, but man, just look around you and you will see much more danger..My wife works at the local ER, and it is a nuthouse there, we just need to think before we self regulate ourselfs out of a fun hobby.

Also, look at shooting sports..that is much more dangerous than flying toy airplanes...even shooting guys dont go as nuts as we do here,lol...lets put it all back into perspective

More people get hurt worrying about safety than practiceing it. If I worried about every bike race I was in I would be dead NOW[&o] For the good old days[>:];)

I don't see anywhere being said we need more rules? My impression is this is about recognizing those for making safety contributions.

Everyone has a different view of what is safe and what is not. It is important everyone is on the same page; even if it's just for the sake of harmony which in itself can be tough!

Give every one a badge and make them a deputy and there will be no Outlaws:D You can not hand cuff one and turn another loss. To keep them quiet you have to hang them:([:'(]

Well for starters I was knocked down by an airplane with a .90 size engine at the aviation Expo many years ago going over 100mph, that destroyed 3 large scale airplanes, a lawn chair and broke one guys toe. had a club members girlfriend break a wing over her head from plane in a dive, had a friend stop his twin with his hand (after I told him many times to slow down), know of many other hand injuries, know of 3-4 shoulder and back injuries from being hit by airplanes, saw a guy knocked down last year at a meet while he was flying, many, many other close calls.

I have a "Lucky Hat". The airplane that hit me took the hat and it ended up about 40' away where the carnage ended. It knocked the button off the top. My freind told me if I wear my "Lucky Hat" again he's going back to the car.

If you need more rules look up the Northern Nevada sanctioned clubs.....the've got stacks of rules I'm sure they'd be willing to share
