Organize a new Flying Site

Some 20 years ago I began flying R/C and stayed with the club for a couple years after. However the distance to and from the field made it more convenient to find more local resources to fly.

I would love to see a flying site in my neck-of-the-woods and could donate my time into such. However I have no clue on how to get things rolling. We live in a rural area with plenty of farm land and open fields apart and away from any structures that would bode well for a club field. How do I even find out who the land owners are? How would I approach them for the prospect of organizing a club site? Who could I contact in this effort that may have experience in this type of thing??

It would be nice to have someone to share with...

RE: Organize a new Flying Site

Find some local guys who like to fly. I bet if you ask or look around there are some already there, or at least some with a similar interest. More than likely you will find a farmer or landowner who like avaiation and would be willing to share some of their land with you. Be sure and point out that if you can organize a club you may be able to get landowner insurance coverage with the AMA, and look into doing that. Most of these landowners want to limit their liability and you can do that with an AMA sanctioned club.
Good luck

You can check with the county tax appraisal entity to find the land owner names. Alternately you can run an ad in the newspaper requesting a "lease" for the activity. You may find a farmer that would just love to get going with this hobby. Often farmers have liability insurances in place already... so the AMA stumbling block may not even be an issue...just some good ole guys getting together to enjoy the sport without any BS.
