I'm working on an inexpensive data terminal for the v1 ecu. I will share the data when it's done.

I'm building my own because I'm also going to add an electric start unit to my air start engine.

FYI... it should be less than $50 in parts.

Wow, sounds like and interesting project . . . keep me informed, may be interested in having an electic start as well. Any more information available?

Are you an electronics engineer?

Scott.

Well... in school I was working on my EE, but my background was Physics.

I don't really have any more info right now... but I should have some soon. The data terminal should be done this coming week. (but it's cold down in the garage) I have the hardware worked out, and I'm just working on the code to run it. I found a cheap ESC programmer, and I ordered it. If nothing else, it will make a good box to put the parts in... but I'm hoping it will have a microcontroller I know how to code. Then I will just re-flash it with my code to make it work as the data terminal. (it was only $18 usd)

What engine do you have? Right now... I was only going to make my program work with my Merc... but it wouldn't be hard to add the code for the other engines.

Tony,

Mine is a Mercury 19.8lb thrust, air start also . . . be good to have it electric start though. I think the ECU is the latest one? Not sure how to telll? I think it s a Ver.2?

How are you going to control the electric start and the eletric cool down procedure?

Best reagards,

Scott.

Haven’t gotten that far yet. The first point of the project is a data terminal. Once that's working... I will work on the "Piggy back" electric start.

The ECU data is documented, so it won't be a problem. Once the data terminal sees a "Clear to start" from the ECU... it can ask if you want to start, then do so, using the engine speeds listed in the manual.

Assuming the terminal will be left in the model, it can go into a "Cool down" mode once it sees the engine RPM is VERY low, and the switch is in the Off position.

Sounds sensational, but not sure I have a V1 ECU . . .

Scott.
