RE: PAU 100cc Extra 300 Sp Build
Here is a link of our mall show that Ray put on You Tube. Ray is a friend of the club and does TV professionally. The rest of us are amateurs. There are some shots of the PAU planes.

RE: PAU 100cc Extra 300 Sp Build
I changed the ruder from (2) 7955 servos to a single 7950TH servo. This is the minimum recommended by PAU for their 100cc line of planes. Ken has successfully flown this setup in his Ultimate and has a single servo setup ion his Edge. I have a tendency to over think and over complicate things while I'm learning. I wanted to go with the KISS method on the ruder. This is the reason for the Servo Swap. Plus it gives me two servos for another application if I need them.
As usual I ran into some Complications with the servo jittering around neutral. The big difference is that this time I asked questions of the right people. Ken and Cody. Cody isa Hitec sponsored pilot. I learned a lot about servos from him. A big thanks goes out to both of you guys.
Jittering is caused by a precision servo trying to find center. If you give it a little resistance you can get it to stop jittering. A loose pull-pull cable can also cause or increase the problem. I tightened up the cables firs and got rid of 98% of the jitter. That was made easy by the turn buckle cable adjusters that I got from PAU when I ordered the plane. I can recommend this as a must have for pull pull setups and will convert all my planes to it in time.
The next thing I did to get rid of the 2% leftover jitter was a little trick I got from Cody. I used a small strip of the fuzzy part of the self adhesive velcro and stuck a short strip on the underside of the ruder counterbalance. This gave it the resistance that it needed for the servo to find neutral. Now it don't have to drive us old school people crazy with all that shaking. LOL.
This worked for me and if you should run into the same problem in the future. You might want to give it a try also.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

RE: PAU 100cc Extra 300 Sp Build
The weather got to cold again. I think the ground is starting to dry up a little. Now only if we could have a few days of no rain or snow I may be able to get my maiden in. I went out with one of my electrics and all I could stand is one flight. I really went out to check the condition of the field but had to take a plane along.

I got a chance this morning to see how the Extra fit in the new to me Man Van. Happy to report that it fits just fine. Don't even have to take the ruder off. This will save me a bunch of money in transport cost.[sm=thumbs_up.gif] Just have to make a mount to keep it from moving around.

Looks like it was made to fit Tom. Again I am having problems with RCU, I have not been getting notices to threads I am subscribed to. I was just browsing and found there was new posts in here.

This has been a the worst winter in recent memory. It's already time for Toledo and I still haven't flown my gassers yet.

I have some reading to do. I went back and looked and I haven't had any notices since page 4. It was like my subscription got cancelled or something.

Just like taking meds...
I read through the whole thread last night, really enjoyed it. I liked what you did with the cockpit and the DA sounds fantastic, you are going to love it for sure. Looks like you guys had a blast at the mall show. Good job, wish I was close enough to drop by and hang for a while.

RE: PAU 100cc Extra 300 Sp Build
I really like the velcro on the rudder idea, I might have to do the same thing.
Well I finally got back on track with my Extra. I've mounted the engine and started laying out the gear in the fuse. I've ordered some RE2 pipes and will wait on them before mounting anything else. In the mean time I can mount some switches and miscellaneous stuff. I'm thinking about ditching the match boxes and using my Aurora9 to match the servos.
You can see a classic example of why I spend so much time putting things together in the throttle servo mount that I made .

I got the velcro idea from Cody.
Nice job on the servo mount. You are a Woodworking Whiz. The servo mount is up to par with the rest of your work.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]
The cowl lines up nice with the spinner.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]
Heard good things about the Aurora. Let us know how it goes.
Going to Toledo in the morning. To bad PAU isn't there.[]

Thanks Tom, its amazing what you can crank out when the weather wont let you fly!
If you catch this message before you hit the show, see if you can find out who has the Staysee helicopter fuse....

RE: PAU 100cc Extra 300 Sp Build
Got the maiden in. It was a little nose heavy and didn't have enough elevator dialed in. Other then that it went great. I took it up and trimmed it then realized that no one was taking a video so I handed the transmitter to Bob. I couldn't see anything on the view screen so there wasn't much footage. Did manage to get both attempts of the landing on video. I'll post it soon.
That is Bob and Kenny in the first picture. Bob did the second half of flying on the maiden. Kenny on the right came all the way from Indy to see the maiden. Thanks for your help Guys.
Yes it was cold and windy.

I'll do some work on the C/G and maybe try it again on Saturday.
