Finding Parts for Discontinued GP ARF - Extra 300S 40
A friend in my club was kind enough to give me an Extra 300s he had that needs just a bit of freshening. It is a Great Planes Extra 300S 40 ARF MonoKote - GPMA1240. My issue is this. This model is discontinued and I am missing the cowl and the belly pan. I'm sure I can fabricate a belly pan if I have to, but the cowl would probably be a bit more involved. I have an email in to Great Planes to see if a cowl for a current model would fit, and just need to be painted. However, I thought I would put this out there to see if you have any ideas in case that is not the case.
Would any of you more experienced modelers have any tips on locating a cowl?
The cowl I'm looking for is GPMA2174.

I just retired that same plane but I didn't worry so much about looks and found a cowl that was close. Unfortunately I don't know which one I used. I'd send you my belly pan but it is all busted up and held together with bubble gum or whatever I could find at the field. Very good plane for sport aerobatics though.

I had this wonderfull Extra from GreatPlanes that i bought used !
I remember that i wanted a new canopy and cowl and found them on TowerHobbies.
I checked them now here: [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0005p?&I=GPMA1240&P=PU]GP Extra 300S (discontinued)[/link]
but they don't carry any of them. You may want to email them or even email GreatPlanes directly!

If you have the old cowl and it is cracked, or broken, you can easily fix it with fiberglass, epoxy and some bondo.
Do you still have it?
If not, head over to www.parkflyerplastics.com and click on the "cowls" section.
I believe there are one or two there that are suitable.
These are plastic unpainted cowls though, and I'd recommend re-inforcing with fiberglass on the inside after you have cut out and assembled the cowl ( but before you cut holes in it ).

Here you go;
http://www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/catalog.htm
His are even better than the stock ones. I just bought one from him for a Cub
Part # GP-34, you will have to paint it. Click on accessories for kits. ( he refers to them as kits)

Thanks for all the great responses. I am still waiting to hear back from Great Planes. We'll see how that goes!
Fiberglass Specialties definitely looks like a great resource! Thanks for posting that up for me. I will probably end up ordering one from there.

Unbelievably I was just notified that the guy who gave me the plane found the cowl! I did not hold out much hope for that at all!
I have bookmarked these sites as cowl resources for the future though!
