My intention was not to throw Gerry under the bus.I can understand his problems and I hope that he can get all the details worked out.I am not complaining about paying more for the Gee Bee from GMP than if would have bought it from HK.I rather buy from Gerry than from HK and get no support.Gerry do you have any idea when the wheel pants will be in?

No sweat lou, My rant wasn't aimed at you brother. It just reminded me of what needed to be said about my HK problems. Your opinion is always welcome.

Yeah, you made the right decision Bigwes.I would have done the same. Much too nice of an airplane to chance a maiden in those conditions. Can't wait to see your video.

I am like a liitekid checking my e-mail everytime Ihear that Microsoft Outlooksound this afternoon to see if you got herflying.

I have decided totake the proper steps to modify the gear assembly. My buddyand I are going to braze some 3/16 wire to theexisting wire, mount the gear and wheel pants then fill the pant tubes up with expandable foam to isolate the wire from jumping around. When Robart makes us some struts for the 30ccI will replace the modified pair. Tonight I am fiberglassing the cowling.

Talked with Gerry today and we have the GMP hardware on the way to replace the HK junk.I also spoke with 3w today and they sent out the pitts muffler to replace the canister. With any luck we should have allthe parts we need by Thursday and can have her maidened on Saturday.

We will setup a radar gun to seewhat kind of speed we canget out of this crate.

i tried a pitts muffler on my dle55 and it did not fit due to clearance with the firewall bottom lenth. i ended up using the stock muffler and it does not sound to bad. i wanted a pitts but it would not fit without cutting muffler or mounting firewall. the stock muffler does take a small amount of clearance to cowl to get to fit......COME ON MISS WIND LET ME HAVE AN HOUR OR TWO and then you can blow your a** off all you want to

I like your ideas about putting expandable foam in the wheel pants to stabilize the wire. I may try it on mine.

just remember....a little goes a long way with the expandable foam. i think that it will stick to bottom of wing and never be able to get gear off....just my 2cents worth.

Just finished fiberglassing the cowl. Came out great. As far as using the foam I plan on installing the wheel pant with wax paper between the pant and the wing. I haven't used the stuf in years so I think a little shot at a time might be the best way to use it. I want to get the entire base of the wheel pant to act as a mount, not just the edges. More of a saddle it you follow.

Tomorrow I am going to a friends to braze the gear wire so I can get these pants installed, trued, and wired.

Maybe, juuuust maybe, we will get to see a video of that maiden tomorrow.

Cool Idea with the Robarts! I assume your joking, but just in case you're serious, I'm afraid the Robarts wont do much at that angle.
I adapted a set of Robarts to my 20cc version from Donuts / Hobby Lobby. They look cool and add some weight, but are raked forward at too much of angle to actually provide any spring dampening. On the other hand, they are much sturdier than the wire gear that come with it.

PS. I'm glad you started this thread Condor. I havent started building my 30cc version that I got from Gerry in January. It is just sitting there in the box taunting me to bolt a sweet sounding Radial to the firewall !

Not to insult anyone, but has anybody actually flown the HobbyKing version?

Where is the CG located?

We got the maiden in yesterday after 6 nights of 3-4am building. Our CG is 78mm from the leading edge. The 3W 55 is rockin. We never got past 3/4 throttle as thisvideo is a combination of the first and second flight.

I made the video in 1080P so you need to watch in HD format full screen to see it.

Click on the video while its playing to watch it on Youtube and you will have an option for full screen.

Hey Condor060,

You're killing me now..........That was INCREDIBLE ! ! ! ! Which muffler did you end up putting on the motor? Good catch on losing the left aileron. You are so correct, it could have been ALLOT worse. I cannot wait to see a video with the plane going full speed after you change all of your control linkage of course...... I told you that motor was a monster. I'd be curious to see how fast your plane is. Do you know and friendly cops with a radar gun?

I did have one small problem with the video. I could not get it to go to full screen. I could change it to 720p, but that is all. It must be a setting in my computer, because my laptop has a high definition 1080p screen.

I hope you enjoy your new toy...............

I used the stockside mount muffler. It worked out the best with the smallest amount of mods. I have a radar gun and will be shooting some speed this weekend. I am supposed to recieve some new hardware today along with a spinner. I have a few other changes I want to make on the wires and the way they connect.

I don't like the little metal clevis they supply. You can't get any tension on the wire without bending them and they won't stay locked. I need tight wires so we can get them singing.

I also need some more flight time on this rig. I am used to turning the airplane to lose altitude when setting up for a low pass. With those two additional rudders out there she maintains her flight path no matter what her attitude is. Very wierd for me. Doesn't fly like anything I have flown before.

If you don't get her lined up right down the runway for a low pas and you are a little offyou can't use ailerons to correct her flight path. Have to use rudder. Its going to take me a few passes to get used to this style of flying but its more than worth it to me.

As far as watching the video in full screen. You need to watch it on Youtube so you can have that option. When the video plays just click on the video screen to watch on youtube

Hey Condor060,

I appreciate the tip about watching the video. It was much better watching it the second time. Besides, I needed a little something to help me cheer up a little since I re-kitted my favorite airplane, my H9 Ultrastick 120 Lite earlier this afternoon.........[:@] due to a loss of signal between my brain and my fingers (otherwise known as dumb thumbs) I'm glad my Rimfire 1.60 and my ESC survived, but I'm affraid I ruined one of my 5000 mAh 5S Flightpower battery packs. Oh well...........[&o]

I cannot wait to see some more video's of your rocket............[&:]
