Where did Iget 34 feet 4 inches from?

Maybe a larger Moth?

OK, I retract my comment.

BTW, Hangar 9 has a Tiggie coming out soon, also 88" span, similar to the one described here.

pettit,

I know that you arent promoting the H9 version. I just have to comment on how crazy the prices are getting. It does look a lot like the the H9 and according to the spec's they are basically identical (other than color). Oh, I did forget the $350 price difference.. I have never owned a plane sold by TBM but damn, how many parts of the H9 version are plated in gold? For 50 bucks more I can buy two of the TBM vs. H9. HMMMMMMMM? I thought the mark up on jewelry and furniture for our wives was bad. I guess, I better just stick to my other hobby of guns and reloading it's looking a lot cheaper.

Hi Carl,

Just for you me old mate.

Install of the DLE 30. I beefed up the inside of the bulk head( for my own peace of mind) with 10 mm ply plate.

With the stand offs she fits just right as indicated in the book from bulk head to prop driver.

I purchased a rap around and it sits very nicely. Will run a 18 x 8 prop.

That looks to be a good fit inside the cowl. Thanks for the photos. Are you going to use a ignition battery eliminator circuit?

If you don't support the muffler can it will quickly separate itself from the engine. Ask me how I know.[:@]

Yes, got from a friend of mine. This is were the light will be mounted to the side of the switches.

No need to support the muffler, I use the same type on all my DLE's, they are on:

2 x 55DLE in my Spitfires
1 on my Stinson DLE 55
1 on my Cessna 152 DLE 30

I have no problem at all. What I have found out from other people who have issues is that the motor gets too hot causing the bolts to fee up.

DB,
Thanks for the progress report. I wonder if the ultra compact slimline muffler would fit in the cowl...its tight in there I see.
I like the compact servos. What brand are they? Do they come with the thicker arms shown. Looking good!

Yes it is very tight in there, if you have one or can borrow one to test it may save you a few £'s

The servos are TowerPro from Giant Cod. I use these on Retract Vales, Throttle and choke as they are low resistance. Used for a few years and no probs.

They come with the standard pack as with the Hitects HS81's.

Cheers

very nice build thread !!
did u need to add nose weight with the dle 30 for the cg ?

do you think a zenoah g38 with a slimline muffler will fit in the cowl ? and will the same be adequate for power ?

The DLE is real happy turning a 20x6. This allows a more scale-like speed and good thrust. You might consider trying one.

hi lifer

thanks for the suggestions. my reasons for the zenoah was
on another forum with the same model (ytinternational) the guys landed up with close to 3.5 lbs of nose weight with a dle 30

hence the thought of putting a zenoah g38 since the tiggy will be flying off its wings and not the engine !!

HiGuys,

Its my other build thread on the YT site.

Regarding motors, this is what I have worked out:

G38
67 ounce = 4.187 5 lb, lbs
DLE 30cc
32 ounce = 2 lb, lbs

So the extra weight on the G38 would require less added to the plane.

The power from the DLE will be ample for this aircraft.

The weight of this plane has come out at 14.5 Lbs with the added weight is now 18Lbs for a 1/4 scale 88" I am not complaining as it needs some so that it will help with stablilty.
The problem on the G38 I think is that the Carb and muffler will pop out both sides.

Cheers

Test Flown the Tiger Moth.

No problems whatsoever, she lifted up om Half throttle, couple of elev Clicks and two on teh Alerons and hands off.

Flight was very nice, never flown a 1/4 scale Bi Plane and can see there is a way to fly them.

I am very happy and pleased with her, Also at 18Lbs she flys great, with the wind that I had I think that the extra weight helped as if she was lighter she can become uncomfortable.

One thing I am going to do is change the wheels to some more scale like.

Very, very nice!

Does it have a rigid suspension or does it absorb shock?

DB,
Nice job of it and congrats on a successful day at the field! Looking at the flying video, I see that it is well powered with the 30cc so it looks like a good combination of equipment. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Guys,

many thanks for your comments.

The Undercaridge is not fully ridid. I have installed some better wheels, one to take away the hardness of the supplied wheels and two looks better. I will post some pics today.

Yes, the 30cc has great power for this, I did have to set some throttle cure as the power came on a little quick, now is very smooth.

Cheers

I had a plane with a rigid gear and ended up using the Dubro inflatable tires, but let all the air out of them. They really absorb shock and have been very durable. If this helps, please consider as an alternative.
