I agree its great to talk so far away

I will take some pics and do some measuring on mine tomorrow and send them on as I am off to the BMFA natinals this weekend (British Model Flying Ass) so will be sorting my aircraft out.

Bear with me guys.

600 Bob,
Ref. to step 38. I had to look long and hard to find the slots. They are right where the illustration shows. Use your finger nail and
rub the locations shown. One is about midway down from the rear hatch former, the other is in the upper control wire opening.
Maybe these fotos will help.
I cut and threaded three 7.5" rods, 0ne inch of thread on each end. I used 1/8" welding rod 4-40 die.

Thanks for the photos. I was looking inside and couldn't see a slot for the forward guide and from your picture the rear guide is above the elevator slot, in the illustration I thought it was actually in the elevator slot.

Found screw hole in stab and removed covering. The only drilled hole in the stab braces is at the stab end. Fitted the stab braces.
Had to rebend the fuse side of the braces so they would lay over the blind nut openings in the fuse. I marked the hole locations in the braces'
and marked the overlap, I drilled the braces and cut off the overlap, result a good fit.
Cleared off the cluttered workbench, put the lower wing on put upper wing together and inserted the strut mounting tabs, did not glue.
I then put the cabanes in place, using my best guess, and attempted to mount the upper wing. The expression "busier than a one arm paper hanger"
came to mind . I did get the wing sort of mounted but my best guess was/is not right. Will regroup and try again later.
I did find the flying wire attachment point for the lower wing, about 3" from the LE at the root rib and slightly in. Epoxied all "wing skids" in place.
Off to the flying field.

Left to go flying, wife went to have her hair done and groceries. Halfway to the field got a call from wife at wallyworld. She ran over something, punchered one tire and drove
several miles on it. I turn around, meet her, new tire $130.00, Groceries $104.00 Hair ??. Could have been a lot worse.
Back at mounting the upper wing, the struts are two different lengths 328mm & 330mm frount and rear respectfully.
the cabanes three different lengths mounted these as follows 204mm rear, 222mm center and 220mm front. Looks good,
Her hair looks good too. hope to fly Sunday.

hi flyalot

great build thread going here !!
waiting to start mine soon, will do so when you are about finished so that will not have to scratch the grey cells too much

wrt servos was wondering if it would be possible to use 1/4 scale servos in the trays / space provided with some mods.
have a few lying around and didnt want to spend on new ones unless i have to

thanks in advance for taking the time out to reply

jagfab,
I am using JR SPORT ST126MG servos. They fit the existing mounting locations. I did glue several strips
of 1/8" ply 1/2' wide under the existing mount to give the servo screws more material to bite into.
Since I do not know the size of the servos you intend to use I suggest you do some measuring to see how
much material you will have to remove, then decide what to do. Reinforce as necessary. My father, who loved wood working,
told me to measure twice, cut once.

Hi,
With the wings mounted as previously described and the fuse blocked level I have +6 degrees incidence
in both wings. Will wait for DB to let us know the cabane strut orientation of his Tiger Moth. I find it
odd that the mfg would have left that info out.

Thanks for the replies flyalot.
Loved the last line "measure twice cut once "
None the less servos that I have are hobbico cs 73 - 1/4 scale servos
Sizes are L=2.3" or 58 mm width =1.1" or 28 mm height = 2" or 51 mm
Would appreciate if you let me know if they wil fit

Thanks

The servos you list are too long, the openings fit standard servos. I am using HS 645mg and they are 1.59" long and just fit the openings. However the two elevator servo mount openings are very wide so the servos can slide side to side to position the pull-pull cables and there is plenty of room to lengthen the opening so you could use at least two of your servos with little work. The rudder mount could be cut larger too for length and width. The aileron servo mounts would take more work than I would want to do though.

Check out the pictures in post #2 to see the rudder and elevator servo openings. Rudder in middle elevators to each side of rudder.

Hi

Was going to use 645 mg for the ailerons & hobbico cs 72 for the elevator and rudder. So I guess for the moment don't need to buy new servos. Thanks all for the replies.

Needless to say will still be following the thread closely.

If you are going to use a gas engine you might want to use servos other than the HS 645. In my gas Stinson I had the aileron servos moving on thier own and another guy had problems with them in a 1/4 scale cub. He replaced his with HS 5625 digital and it solved his problem. I replaced mine with the 5625 and it also worked. The other servos in my Stinson are still the 645 and they are fine so far and I will try them in the Tiger Moth just because I had already purchased them. The theory is that some of the 645 do not like the lower signal voltage in the 2.4gig RX compared to 72mhz and any small amount of ignition interference makes them do funny things. Just a thought.

hi 600 bob

do agree with you.
have faced this issue in the past with 645 as well as other servos when the receiver has been within 6 " of the ignition module.
however try to follow a thumb rule of placing the ignition a minimum of 8" ( as and where possible) from the ignition unit

also try and make sure that the wires from the ignition unit to the plug is once again covered with insulation / wrap aroung so that ant current is not earthed with the fuse

since i have done this do not face any issues with interfearance till date ( touch wood )

none the less thanks for posting

Hi db, 600 & flyalot
Any thoughts on the rigging ? Removable ? What is the set up time on the field ? Structural or not ?
Thanks

I am planning to use Sullivan Gold-N-Clevises, Sullivan Attachment Straps and Great Planes Rigging Couplers and larger than supplied wires.  They will hold the top wing in place since I'm not making it one piece.  Not planning to use the X brace wires on the outboard wing struts at this time, will see how it works when I get to that point.

HI,
I am not going to use the supplied rigging wires. I will be using Balsa USA Nicropress 1/4 scale
system for both pull-pull control and flying wires. I will be at a reunion the rest of this week and part of next.

I'm Back. Bound the receiver to Xmttr. Squared all servo arms and have started rigging the control cables.
The servo end is fastened in place and the cables are cut to length and run to thier respective control arms.
Throttle linkage all 2.5" of it is installed, needs minor adjustment. Rudder servo is connected to large control
lever in fuse. Mine has only one hole drilled for control rod. Using 4-40 rod and hardware. More later.
