Default Ecomrc Stinson SR-9 from TBM

Came across this plane and decided to pick one up, should have it next Tuesday. Always wanted to build the TF kit version, just cannot find the time to devote anymore, plus for only $230 more plus shipping its already build and covered in Profilm(oracover). Specs are just about the same as the TF kit as well so I should be able to utilize the cockpit from it.

Power will be either a Zenoah G-38 which I have already or a DLE 30, depends on what kind of nose weight will be required I guess. I'll post some pics when I recieve the plane along with a bit of a build thread.

I'll be interested to see this one. Attaching a couple of pics of my TF SR9. You're right. The TF is a LOT of work to build....

Wow, very very nice. I believe we also share fw-190 with the black/white noses.

Recieved the plane yesterday, I've only had a brief chance to check it out. From what I can see it's very nicely built. You can definitely tell it's made by ESM, especially by the fiberglass work, which while nice, is quite heavy. Also, the various fairings and windshield are made from the same very brittle plastic as can be found on the ESM warbirds, so you've never built an ESM plane before you have to be extra careful when cutting and handling these pieces.

The wood work and framing is very well done, of course all laser cut and interlocking with what looks to be an adequate amount of glue. The covering is especially nice, a couple of minor scuffs from the iron and some color that was melted(easily cleaned up) are the only miniscule issues. The paint work on the cowl is great, and I'm glad I didn't have to do that myself, especially the pinstrips around the valve cover bumps.

More pics. I know it's nitpicking, but I'm just not a fan of the fact that they can not produce a clean edge on their glass work. A little dremel work and it's good.

And some more. I really like the pre-hinged doors and the assembled servo mounts on the wing hatches. I think some more glue may be in order for the mounts though.

The last few. Of course without fail, UPS did their best to smash the plane. Just some minor damage to the fin post.

Found a crushed area in one wing panel also, ups really does suck it. Only installed one wings worth of servos so far and I was right, the servo mounts need extra glue, they came apart while pre-drilling holes for servo screws. Be sure to reinforce them.

All finished up. A very easy build. Biggest complaint is the typical chinese junk hardware, just complete garbage. They (TBM) really have got to get on ECOMRC/ESM about the quality of the hardware included. The build was straight forward, not a single scratch your head moment. Overall very happy with the plane, it looks great in person and is quite large. Engine is a G38 with power HD 1501mg servos through out. I havent weighed it yet, but I would guess its in the 17-19lb range.

I'm kinda surprised by the lack of interest in the plane. In general there is very little if any feedback on the net regarding it.

Put the maiden flight on the airplane today. What a great flying plane. Powered by a G-38 it balanced at the leading edge of the wing tube which felt perfect. It tracks very well for this type of airplane. Though not made for it, it does some nice acro. It's best attribute is its stability and ease of flying. Great airplane for sitting in a lounge chair and cruising around. Most fun is to drop full flaps and come in almost straight down for landing.

What made it ill fitting?all I did was remove 1/4" off the rear edge. Took 10 minutes. Not gonna complain about that.

Would the DLE-30 be enough engine for this plane? I have one sitting on the shelf and this looks like a good project.

For scale flying I would say yes. I'm running a well used g38 swinging a 18x10. I also have two dle 30's running 18x8's and they pull a heck of alot harder the the zenoah.

I kinda like these golden age birds, a 50cc version would be welcome but the 30cc versions from various manufactures are worth looking at.
I just cant fly a 2 stroker gas in these, 4 stroke nitro or radial in nitro or gas is great, but the motors are spendy $$$$

The model I just bought last week. When I took it out of the box was all dusty, wrinkled foil, very poor or ugly coated model, half of the quasi-screws, many are also missing. Supplied with foam wheels smaller as indicated in the instructions and on top is still very hard.Too much expensive model for such quality!!
My first and last model from this company. Above the model I am very disappointed! All packing material I had to change to the better, because the original totally sucks! The model is made very bad everywhere slot, the instructions are wrong, the engine I had moved 2cm lower because the plan gets too high. My worst approach model so far!!!

Maiden flight today sucessfull :-)
Flights pretty good, even for acrobatics has enough power, but of course acrobatics are not very nice because it's not aerobatic aircraft.
lands nicely without flaps, bucking not.
I made two flight so that I could see how it behaves in the air plane.
After Aileron is a bit lazy, height and direction are however pretty good response.
Minimum speed is quite low, but it can also flies fast.Feelings which are currently quite satisfactory
