RE: GP GEE BEE
When it comes to:
a large gee bee r1/r2 (read: want it to look good and stay looking good)
lots of fiberglass
discontinued = no parts
known bad landing habits
terrible in crosswinds
I don't mind trying a little stabilization.
I love flying my planes, not crashing them. I'm not in it to prove I can fly something someone can't....I'm in it to fly the airplanes I love and keep flying them.
This should help with landings (it doesn't need stabilization for anything else)...and should eliminate PIO, but I'm going to try to not even let that happen and really land this thing correctly.
In the end, this system will auto correct for anything unforseen WAY before I could...and if that saves this beautful model...then I'm cool with it.
Don't worry, I'd never think of putting something like this on one of my 3D planes (87" Extra SHP (12S), 89" Slick (12S)) or my Top Flite Sea Fury (8S).

That is some nice technology. I on the other hand would just rather fly it with my own personal abilities. The only reason I say that is because it help me become a better pilot and has allowed me to fly planes that the normal persons would not think about flying in certain conditions. Based on your profile...7 years of operating experience you should be able to fly the Gee Bee just fine. I purchased and flew the Gee Bee with only about 2 years of flight time.

Understood. All I can say if you want it to stay looking good, then I would make it a hangar queen. As far as 3D I do not fly 3D only scale planes so I can not comment on that.
I am not here to prove anything either...but I am all about learning how to actually fly the models I buy. You are speaking to someone who flies the gee bee in its factory form. I am not just a random person on the forum giving you BS. Whatever you decide good luck and do not fly the Gee Bee if you do not feel comfortable. Check out my flight on my gee bee.

Thanks, I have wanted to go to GMA to fly my TF staggerwing but the distance is too far for me right now. I am wanting to get the Comp arf Gee Bee but my wife is like H- NO! If I ever make it to GMA I will look for you. I drive a yellow dodge ram 1500, so if you see a Bright Yellow 2004 dodge ram at the field it is me.

I am out there most nice weekday mornings. I always wear my white pith helmet with RC patches on it (at least for last 34 years.) Be sure to bring your GeeBee.

We rarely have anyone at any of the fields around here.
It makes me almost want to move.

RE: GP GEE BEE
Well I am probably going to retire the Gee Bee. I have not flown it in over a year and the fields here in Georgia are to small to fly it with comfort. The only fields that would be worth me flying it at are too far away to go to every weekend or once a month. My wife wants me to just hang this one up. I kinda agree with her. I have flown it many times, it is still in one piece, and I have video that it does fly and land. I have a OS 120 in it now and currently do not know what plane I am going buy to put it in.

RE: GP GEE BEE
I have seen theworldmodels gs p-51 fly with the 2300. It weights the same as the hangar 9 p-51 so the 2300 should fly it very well. Also I have seen a top flight staggering fly in nashville tn with a 2300 and it weighed about 18 lbs and it flew but bairly. Yeah the 35 will fly it just fine but the 2300 will fly it well. Thanks for the concern though.

From experience, a prop with 6 inches of pitch makes the plane much easier to land. Adhere to the balance and throws recommended by the manufacturer. Keep power on til it touches down. If you try to land it like a trainer, the plane won't live very long. Low rates, per the assembly manual were the best to fly it on. Too much elevator throw will bite you!
