Does anyone have the ECOMRC Wedell-Williams 88 inch wing plane? I was wondering how it is and what engine your using?

I have the BH Gilmore Lion with a DL-50 in it. 84" wingspan, on sale for $399. Not sure how it compares to ECOMRC.

Mine doesn't have wires. The landing gear is pretty weak and I broke the pants on a less than perfect landing. I just bent a piece of aluminum to add to the strut and may just keep it that way. I'm going to add some larger wheels with aluminum hubs to dress it up a bit. Otherwise, the plane flies good. I actually added a little nose weight even with the DL 50. I'm trying to add a couple photos from our recent giant scale show.

Yeah, I was thinking of adding a couple of supporting thick piano wires to the existing strut to make them look like big guy wires.

That will help re-inforce the gear from side to side, but I don't have a clue as to what to do yet about front to back bracing.


I'd imagine it would not be too difficult to fabricate new pants for your plane out of some other giant scale plane wheel pants.

Stock fiberglass wheel covers can be cut with a dremel from the top. The strut cover could be added via plastic sheeting or formed from fiberglass cloth.


Yours doesn't look bad as is though.

Any pictures of what you did to the gear to beef it up?

Hi, thank you for the video,

I´m interested in exactly that plane, but I only found vids from the Black Horse Model.
What about the flying wight of your plane? The manual says 8600 g.
Is the ASP powerfull enought for a airracer?
My idee is to use a saito fa 450R3. (i´m loking for one )
Both engines have nearly the same power, but the saito is 300 g heavier.
So I am not sure.

Hi Lars,

thats the main reason I made the video. Theres 3.459 Videos of the Black Horse Gilmore and none of the EcomRC although it is miles better. Expecially the gear is very robust and the outlines come a lot closer to the original.

my plane ended up with 10,6kg and I needed no lead. The Batteries (3S1800 Reciever and 1S4000 Glow) are as far back on the servomount as possible. The FS400AR is adequate for flying it but you have to use a 22x10 (6.300 rpm) Prop. I am using the black graupner sonic pro prop and that works well. It has very good vertical power.

I also have a saito 450 lying here that I want to try in the plane. The saito definitely has more power than the fs400. It turns the same 22x10 Graupner Sonic @6950 rpm.

If you add the bracing wires (rods) to the gear and wings you can have scale functionality and looks!

@Lars: The Kit is brilliant. It is way superior to the Black Horse Model. I am reviewing the Plane for the "Modell" so if you wait for a couple of Months you can read the whole review in one of the coming issues.

Do you think the Evolution 77cc Radial engine would work in the plane you have? The cowl certainly looks large enough. I think it might be a good combination.

I have the Evo and the Saito 450 at home as well and dry fitted both. The cowl clears both easily. The Saito will fit on the stock firewall. The 400 and the 777 need custom standoffs because the firewall itself is quite small (smaller than the stock motormount) and recessed.

I am contemplating buying this plane. I've been thinking about a DLE 120. It weighs less than the asp and the fg84. The cowl is wide enough to accommodate. Thoughts?

The 88" Gilmore is a 50cc plane. A 120cc engine is too much for it.

Just curious. All you guys using the DLE 55's, how much weight in the nose are you using to balance it properly?

I added about 8oz ( a whole container ) of "Liquid metal" from Deluxe Materials, which is basically tiny lead shot, to the extreme front of the cowl.

The lead shot mixed with epoxy greatly strengthened the cowl. I also re-inforced it with more fiberglass and added gromets, etc. for anti-vibration and adecuate support.

I'm using three very light LiFe packs to power the plane, two 2000's for the electronics and one for the ignition. They are mounted at the top front of the fuselage just in front of the removable canopy assembly.

This worked out perfectly without the need to add an undue amount of weight.
