bikerbc,
I would send it back. Santa Clause spunked out a lot
of cash for this thing. I would not want to be doing any
repair work on a new plane.

That is my feeling too but I dont want too be Unreasonable either..I guess if Horizion is willing to replace the parts I will call that good...The part that sucks is having to wait while we ship back and forth...I want to get going...I guess there is stuff I can do...It kinda feels like I got a lemon...I am wondeing if I will find anything else broken or if there are hidden joints that are bad...Thank you for your advice

Maby they will just send you a wing and windshield and let you
keep the broken one for a spare. It would be nice to have just in case
you have a little mishap.

no matter how you look at it, it is still a cub and will fly like a cub.

I dont know how they work it ..I sure hope they dont make me wait too long..I agree having a spare would be nice but at this point I would sooner have a flawless kit..I have dealt with them before nand always been treated fairly but it has never been somthing like this before...I think they will replace my wing..Its just weather they will make me wait till they get mine back or not...I can not see how they could refuse to replace it..It is clearly squashed on the tip..I agree it is not bad but at the same time given the choice which wing would you take..The squashed one or one that is perfect? There may be more damage inside that I cant see..I dont know what caused that damage but it must have been quite a smack..That is strong out there..Like I said its almost like it was stepped on...Maybe the person packing the plane was drunk and dropped the wing and then stepped on it then busted the winshield squishing it in the box ..Who knows...The little 1/4" dowl in the cockpit is broken loose too and the mono coat dash is torn where it attaches..that I can live with but how much do you put up with..I am sorry I am venting I am frusterated The only reason I checked that dowl is because sombody else on here had one that was loose...Edit I went back and looked and it was in post # 49 roknHS that had the little brace knocked loose This may be a weak spot in the packing that need to be addressed...Or a spot to look at before gluing in our winshieds...

Here are a few pics of my build. I am going with a Power 160 and 110 amp ESC for my setup since I will be flying using the scale floats. Also, the lake where we fly in nearly 7,000 ft. MSL.

Since the Power 160 is 10mm longer than the Power 110, the cowl mounting blocks had to be extended a few mm. I will be using 10S 5500 batteries. I use the same setup on my H9 1/4 scale J-3 Cub on floats and it flies beautifully at 23 lbs.

The manual has the incorrect wingtip position light colors... red on the right and green on the left, so be alert to this fact and change accordingly.

Okay, I admit it's a very nice looking ARF, but it ain't scale! The fuse width is the same as the J3 but should be a litle wider as the PA-18 was wider, The rudder, which even on the J3 is way off on scale outilne, it is too flat along the rear edge and should be more rounded. The corrugated flight surfaces are nice but show me a standard spec PA-18 with these types of surfacing, they were fabric! The hinging is not scale either on both the ailerons and the flaps. Hangar 9 has produced a mediocre rendition designed at getting your money for an overly expensive ARF. Yes, know if I want scale then build it! I am! Just my two cents!

Happy Flying!

Early on in this Blog I asked about the corigated surfaces on the elevators and flaps wondering if this was something new that was actually scale . Because everything full scale I have ever seen has been fabric covered pipe surfaces .

Most are fabric, but I've worked on Super Cubs with metal flaps and ailerons. From what I gather some of the last Super Cubs came with the updated flaps and ailerons (1977?).

Either way, I would pay extra to have these flaps and ailerons come prehinged...what a pain! [:'(] Starting to wonder if mine has come with two of the same side aileron. I've had to rework a bunch of the hinge slots to get it anywhere near to all lining up. []

Early on in this Blog I asked about the corrigated surfaces on the elevators and flaps wondering if this was something new that was actually scale, because everything full scale I have ever seen has been fabric covered pipe surfaces. This was one of the things that I tried to ask Bill Brundle about but was not able to get a reply...Hanger 9 seems to be very proud of how scale they have kept the plane, to the point of deleteing such things as an electric motor mount. I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt and the control surfaces are probably scale detail. I quite like the rigid surfaces, I think the plane looks great. Even though there are a few broken pieces, that really isn't Hangar 9's fault, but we'll see how they deal with me from here on. That is up to them..They have always been fair in the past.

Well I cant comment on how the port wing 's aileron and flap fit but the starboard is deadly..You must have two from one side or the other...I did not bother to try and work on the broken wing....I notice the hinge line is slightly off centre...I agree though..At this point why not hinge them for us too..I would even pay a few extra bucks for that part...Although we always squawk when too much stuff is done and say I would sooner do this myself because I do a better job or I would sooner do that myself because I want to choose my colour or what ever..The poor beggers cant win..Why cant we just accept what we get and be happy? Did the one side fit okay? Did you call the tec Dept? I think I would Have called the Tec Dept and asked them what the heck was going on...Mine really fits good on the one side...Now you got me worried...How did everybody else make out on the ail flap fit?...One thing I did notice is that the Aileron rubs just a tiny bit...Not enough to bother anything but it does rub...I may be able to fuss with it a bit more and get that aligned a bit better before I glue it permanent...I am using That EPO_GRIP Epoxy slow cure to glue in my hinges...That stuff is great...The little extra that squishes out you can pull back against that fragile edge of the aileron that is like an egg shell and sort of build it up on a 45 degree angle..The epoxy dosent run so it hardens there and strenghens that edge...That epoxy is great to work with..I bet a few of us have already broken some of those little edges out of there...They are pretty fragile..Once that epoxy hardens in there they are as strong as hardwood...

Man..... Making comments like these are really showing your ignorance where PA-18's are concerned. I'm not even going to waste my time trying to educate you on all your inaccurate statements, but please atleast do some homework before you make so many silly statements that make you look like some 8 year old child posting. You have obviously not spent any time around or flown full scale PA-18's.

Ken, don't worry, I think I may just have two of the same aileron. The one wing lines up perfect, the other I can get within 1/8th of an inch of lining up by elongating the mounting holes a little and twisting things a little. It looks the same if i swap ailerons...the same side lines up perfect and the other one doesn't. I'll give the tech line a call tomorrow and see what they think.

As for the hingining of the ailerons and flaps being non-scale...here's some pics from my collection. Threw in one of the landing lights too for those that are looking for to make scale lights.

About factory glued hinges, you don't want that, better to do it yourself. i see this as a H-9 upgrade!

I won't get into a pissing contest with you but you are wrong bro! I was merely pointing out that stock PA-18's did not come off the line with corrugated surfaces. If you see one today with these mods, they are after market. Hangar 9 does not always do their homework and in this case they did not as well. Still a nice plane ( I said that to begin with) but in your case I would suggest laying off the "I know more than you do" as that truly points to your ignorance.

Happy Flying!

Do some research. EVERY PA-18 that came off the Piper line, beginning with the 1978 model had metal flaps and ailerons. No after-market, its straight from Piper. That's very common knowledge with most people who are very familiar with the PA-18 line. I'm only talking about Piper Factory PA-18's that came off the Lockhaven line, and the last 113 factory 150 hp models that came off the Vero Beach line. Check it out.
