RE: New Hangar 9 1/4 Scale P 18 Super Cub
Thanks Bikerbc,
I assume you are talking about the light kit that they recommend in the assemble manual, as mine did not come with a light kit.
I suppose that I could use a servo operated micro or system switch to turn on the light system with one channel, and then use a seperate channel to switch on the landing lights.
On the subject of the bungee cord in place of the rubber bands. I picked up a package of the mini bungee cords with the metal hooks on the end. They are about 1/4" diaimeter and 9" long. I thought I would try and see if they would work.

Yes I guess I must have ordered the optional lite kit.. My memory is pretty bad , I am fighting my way back from a stroke , I don't see why the little bungee cords wouldn't work , good Idea ..!/8" is the size you want ..

I just Google d 1/8" shock cord and it came up with tons of suppliers . A lot guys use it to replace their tent pole cords it seems..Make sure to Google 1/8'' or you will come up with bigger stuff ..

I missed a great chance today
We went up to GA for a fly-in that a club up by Kings Bay was dedicating a new field and I knew I was doing a glider towing demo so I had the Pawnee in the trailer so I took the Super Cub out and put my SBach in....
Well a guy shows up and lands with a full scale Super Cub and hangs around and watches us fly models for a while.....that would have been a cool picture......

FYI, set the rigging up as the plans show on the floats. My CG came out at 3.5 inches back from the leading edge, which is the rear limits. I have a DLE 35 Ra. 18X8 Zoar composite prop, the two reicevers and two A123's set right on the CG. That CG makes the elevator a little sensitive, but not dangerous. Flaps need some down elevator programed to compensate for the pitch up. Work on the rates you like and use some expo on the elevator. I maidened mine Last Saturday, 10 total flights, no issues at all except an igintion switch taking a sheet. My fist two landing were dead stick, but actually the best ones, Go figure. These values Im giving you are for floats, as Ive never put the gear on, have fun. Also my ignition and battery are next to the fuel tank. If you check the sea plane forum, I have a bunch of pics posted

I glassed the bottom of mine too and it really stiffens them up , I hope that's enough . I would not mind paying more if the floats were well made.. They are way over priced now for quality but for looks they are worth it .. I think I would sooner have a quality set of floats that would stand up to a few knocks and not tear apart . If they fill up with water and you take off your C of G could shift to tail heavy and make the plane hard to fly..Hanger 9 must read these threads and know how unhappy we are with the floats .. They are such a good outfit I can't understand why they don't do something to improve the floats

I'll let you know after the weekend. Test flight didn't come off yesterday because apparently some of the rubber bands on the gear slipped off and weakened the gear on one side, probably would have collapsed if I'd tried to taxi. Running the motor up tho I can't imagine there'll be any power problems and would guess that most flying will be done at less than half throttle with ample power for vertical.

I got stand-offs from PSP Mfg to properly space my ASP 160FT. It totaled 1.75" to clear the cowl opening with the drive washer. Not quite done putting the whole rig together but it seems like it may need more weight up front, although I still need to permanently mount on-board glow plus the battery, and the receiver battery. Anyone find a better pilot? The dude that came with the kit is not 1/4 scale, and he's ugly as all get out!

Hey guys,
To the guys that have gone with the Saito 182 twin, and used "stand-offs" to mount the engine to the firewall, What length stand-off did you use??..

RE: New Hangar 9 1/4 Scale P 18 Super Cub
I just posted a thread about the SC before I caught this site.I just received mine and am going to mount an evolution 33GX in it. Problem is the wraparound muffler. Since the engine is lighter than the recommended Z26, cold I use longer standoffs and shift the cowl? This would move the cowl about 3/8 to 1/2 inch farther out. Will the plane still fly as well as long as it gets a good balance? Thanks in advance

I don't see why not. You have some play with the cowl but not a lot though unless you want to figure out a way to extend the mounting blocks.
With the G26 the screws are about half way out on the blocks to get everything lined up.
Ready to get wet!!
