Ducatikid, either you don't know how to make a three point landing or too lazy to do so. Takeoff is a different story but the plane is STOL ready if you can handle it.

3 pointers are easy, it's touch and goes with the plane level (on a bumpy undulating strip ) that need careful elevator input. With the DLE 40 or any engine that has reasonable power, take offs are almost instantaneous

If you knew me you would realize how ridiculous it is to call me lazy

So after hearing about the new PR Bushwheel shock struts I had to give them a try. Up till now, I've been super frustrated having tried the o-rings, rubber bands, J3 1/4 scale springs and shock cord. Each would work for a while, and then the inevitable failure...some times resulting in prop strike or worse, an early end to my fly day. It seems my gear issues are over! These bad boys are legit! They work very well, and if anything, are over designed! And they have that Northwest bush plane look!

At $100, they aren't cheap, but again, are very well made. In fact, I bet they'll be the last think working on this plane in the end! Wish I would have had them from day 1! Would have saved me the cost of multiple props, springs, hog rings, shock cord, and more! Extra bonus for the support! Responded to e-mail within minutes on a Friday night no less

With these on, this Cub shot to the top of my list for practicing crazy touch-n-go's, slips and more!

Good stuff!

Have done the extra stripes i wanted on mine to make it easier to see from below and again make it look a little different than everyone else's at the field. Electronics are all hooked up too, not stuck in yet, as i will wait till the planes all together to get the CofG right. Will be fitting the undercarriage tomorrow as i fitted the 1/4" axle sleeves today. here is a few photos of the build so far.

cheers chuck

Broke the end of the wing strut pulling wing from wing bag. Anyone have a stronger solution than the pot metal? Or perhaps, something less expensive than the $90 replacement price for the strut kit (HAN454010)?

Same thing happened with my Pawnee, I've been very careful with the Cub and Beaver struts and thankfully haven't broke them yet.

The cheapest option would be to repair by brazing and other than building your own set, replacements from HH are the only ones I know of.

Man, you've really had some bad luck with struts on these H9 planes. Didn't you destroy a strut on one of your Beavers a while ago? They are pretty delicate, and the metal seems to be a powdered alloy- it doesn't seem very substantial. Then again, it is pretty light weight. Call Horizon and ask them if the ends are available for a do-it-yourself repair.

My PnP PA-18 coming on slowly. Hopefully the mains and tail wheel from PR Bushwheels will be here this week.

Yep...I'm starting to think the felt like material inside the Wingtote bags is the culprit. Broke 2 ends on my Beaver and luckily, HH sent me one off their demo plane as they were back ordered for 8 months! Maybe I should ditch the bags and go commando!

Cheers

Thanks. I purchased 2 cheap single LED torches from the local auto parts store, cut the reflectors off and widened the holes to accept 10mm LEDS. Lighting kit is from www.scaleflying.com.

Mustang- tell me about those multi connectors for your aileron and flap servos, light connections, etc. I've been thinking about cleaning up some wings with those, but haven't tried it yet.

Hi Jeep,
They are standard computer DB9 male and female (Solder pins) plugs. Should be available at any electronics component stores.
