I resolved the issue by shortening the button head screws and used regular nuts with lock tite so when folded they do not bind with the struts. The lock nuts were just a little proud and installed in either direction would either bump the covering or when reversed they would bind. All is well.

Well, regardless of the hiccups and hurdles encountered during the assembly process, after almost 40 flights this plane has definitely become one of my favorites. She's really a joy to fly and seems to perform much like a scale model of a Cub should. The Zenoah ZP26 provides plenty of power for takeoffs and climbing yet still allows for realistic flight at about 2/3 throttle. I keep 'er trimmed for straight and level flight at 2/3 throttle then when I want to climb I advance the throttle and up she goes just like the full scale Cessnas I've flown. With a little elevator she'll float around all day at about 25% throttle. Once I got the flap/elevator mix figured out (was a little tricky 'cause my Futaba 6EX transmitter only has an all-or-nothing switch for flaps) I found out how much fun flap landings can be on calmer days (slows down nicely). It's also lots of fun going to max altitude and cutting the throttle to just off idle and floating for as long as possible. On top of everything else she looks great in the air too. Definitely a winner for me and a wonderful addition to my little squadron... :-)

I agree 100% The G26 in mine cost me my plane on a hot summer day . In fairness I do put things together on the heavy side but then this is a Cub .

Wow. I don't consider my ZP 26 marginal or inadequate at all. I can't do any absurd 3D maneuvers or anything but as far as good solid takeoffs and climbouts and general flying I have no complaints at all. I wouldn't change a thing at this point. I can't speak to performance on floats but on wheels I love it. A step up would be something like a DLE 30 and being an owner of several of those I know it would be way too much on this plane for me. I guess it's like anything else... To each their own. If you like tons of reserve power that isn't often needed or if you're gonna fly with floats or tow or something then the engine I used probably wouldn't make you happy. Even on hot crappy air days it suits me just fine. Guess we all gotta go with a combination that is good for us. Always very interesting to hear other peoples' take on things and the results they get...

I am always complaining about Cubs with TOOO much power. And then I stick a 40cc twin in mine. I never have flown it WOT, mainly because I have set the mechanical linkage to the carb to only open 75%. I hardly ever go there, I usually fly back in the 20% range to where I can hear a nice rumble, but keep the rpm's low. I love to fly slow; just like the real one. I have just fallen in love with the sound of a twin.

I have a G26 on my Tailor Craft and I love the combination . I have a lot of Cub experience and I was surprized that I could not get my Super Cub to fly with the G26 on it . My buddy has an older 1/4 scale arf with a G26 on it that weighed about the same as mine and his flew fine . I have a 1/4 scale Sig Cub with an os120 on it and it would fly circles around my Super Cub with the G26 on it . I played with props and blah blah and I never got it figured out before I lost it . I think something was wrong with the airframe . I needed to get my incidence meter out I suppose . In this world of ARF's just because your plane fly's well with a given setup it doesn't mean everybody's will . They don't all come out the same . They are all just a bit different .

I have read here installing the VVRC 40 results in a tail heavy condition. I am using a 40 as well so I will try to get the ignition and battery as far forward as possible. Unlike the access available in some of my larger planes this one makes it difficult /tight to position these items on either side of the fuel tank and I was wondering how those of you using this combination went about installing these items, routing plug wires etc. Pictures would be helpful. Thanks.

Ok, I guess my hands are a little large to reach very far up in the area beside where the tank will reside. How did you guys secure the ignition and did you run the plug wires out through a hole in the duct area under the cowl?

I cut a hole just big enough to get the plug cap/cable through. Wrapped the module in foam cushion and stuffed her down the side with more foam/sponge pieces to keep it from vibrating. The battery pack went on the other side. All wiring went under the floorboard.

VVRC 40cc and noise
I measured the VVRC with the standard mufflers: 98 dB which is much too loud (20x8 XOAR @ 6400rpm)
I'm experimenting with some sort of noise damper plugs. Actually I'm down to 82 dB but the engine runs lean and becomes hot. Still on the way to optimize....
When I'm finished I'll post a sketch of the dampers.
