How would a Kavan 50 twin 4 cycle engine work on this 1/4 scale J3 Cub ? Can anyone give me the inside width of the cowl? Also the distance from fire wall to front of the cowl? Thanks, John

Inside width : 220 milimeters,. Instruction manual says: distance from firewall to drive washer 158 mm to correctly match the cowl spacing.

Hey Guys, I know some of you have replaced the rubber bands on the LG with O rings but I can't find it again on here. What size are you using?

O-rings is nearly as problematic as rubber brands. Thin shock cord or a set of shocks from PR Bushweels are the two permanent solutions.

I agree..........I hate to think how many trips I've made looking for the right size o ring, springs and shock cord. PR Bushwheels was my best decision.

The Bush Wheels shocks are a bit pricey at $95.00 a pair. The O ring size I have been using is #216.
ID = 1.125
OD = 1.375
Section DIA is .125
95 bucks buys a lot of O rings.
Hope this helps.

I agree, They are pricey. I think I'll try the O-rings first and if they don't work out get the shocks. I think I will try springs also, has anyone went this route?

Order them on Amazon.com and get just 10 or so to try out. I have the PR set-up and it can take a really hard landing, but some times I wish I had a softer tire (I use Dubro 1/3 solid tires) . I have a Cub with Robarts and the Oring set up and I do like the "bungee action" when I do grease it in on a dirt strip. You do have to replace the orings periodically or you will have one of those episodes where your Cub is all splayed out with a broken prop and scuffed up cowl.

I´m using springs, they works fine to me. Two springs per leg. I have to disassemble to take measures.

I didn't see one single slip in all those landings! I'm living in north Creek (0NY0) now starting mid October. Let's get together and fly big ones and RC airplanes, too!

I have a set of Hanger 9 1/4 scale floats I would like to install on my PA 18. Would someone please advise the distance they extend beyond the front of the cowl so I can determine if it will fit in my toy hauler. Thanks.

Yea, the PRB stuff is nice, we have the whole set on one of the 1/4 scale Cubs. The tail wheel is a work of art.

When I'm finished I'll post a sketch of the dampers.
Hi Topkits,
Have you had any luck getting the engine to run cooler with the noise damper plugs? I also need to quiet down my VVRC 40 in the Cub. Looking forward to seeing what you came up with.

Yes, I got it! Had to shorten them a bit, now it works fine. Lost some rpms. Have to measure the values, then I'll send the details.
